    Hi there

Thanks for posting this question I too would be keen to learn how it could be treated and also keep at bay longterm.

All I can say is that my/our sons journey started last Sep and had never heard of C-toma so it was a steep learning curve for all of us, as it is for most of us.

It was diagnosed in Jan 13 and we accepted surgery Sep 13.

In this timeframe I adopted the approach of using homeopathy through a homeopath rather then self adminster and used this as a way of stengthing the constitution.  Regular chiropractic treatments which he had instant relief from the "gloop" in that he felt it moving and releasing out of his ear canal. We tried gluten free and dairy free for 3 months but did not see a noticeable change in his discharge and as it was very costly so shelved this.  A was provided with info re saline and xylotol nasal spray and we still use this as in the US they conducted a small clinical trial which helped ease Eustrachian Tube Dysfunction which in my opinon is all tied in with c-toma developing.

I hope this has helped and if anyone else comes back with any thoughts I'd love to hear about them.

    All the best!

    Hello there,

    My daughter has suspected c-toma.

She is 5 and has had trouble with her ears since a toddler.

She has had 3 sets of grommets. She has lots of scar tissue or c-toma.

She is under a homeopath who prescribes her a remedy which is supposed to dissolve the scar tissue.

I haven't got anything to gauge it with whether the remedy is helping.

My daughter is being transferred to a London to have surgery to remove (skin cells/c-toma)

It's worth calling some homeopaths, my one had never heard of the ear disease.

I feel like I cannot mess take the change of no surgery for my daughter.

    Hope that helps a little?!

From Wikipedia: "Homeopathy lacks biological plausibility, and its axioms are contradicted by scientific facts. The postulated mechanisms of action of homeopathic remedies are both scientifically implausible and not physically possible ... Continued homeopathic practice, despite the evidence that it does not work, has been criticized as unethical because it discourages the use of effective treatments, with the World Health Organisation warning against using homeopathy ... The continued practice of homeopathy, despite a lack of evidence of efficacy, has led to it being characterized within the scientific and medical communities as nonsense, quackery, and a sham ... Assessments by the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and the Swiss and British government health departments have each concluded that homeopathy is ineffective and recommended against further funding."

Cholesteatomas are progressive, your health will only ever continue to get worse until it is removed. It erodes bone leading to deafness, destroys nerve processes leading to paralysis, and causes recurring infections leading to local pain, vertigo, fever, fatigue and confusion, and will progress to systemic infection. If it erodes the bone anteriorly toward your brain, it can lead to meningitis, brain abcess, and death.

Choosing to skip surgery in favor of skittles for oneself sounds like a qualification for a Darwin Award. Choosing to skip surgery in favor of skittles for a dependent in your care sounds like a qualification for a criminal homicide conviction.

    Hi,

First I just want to say that if there were "anything" out there that I believe would have been homeopathic to treat this condition, I would have tried it myself.

The bottom line is this..."while it is NOT cancer, it performs as such".

The longer it is allowed to grow...it WILL.

Mine was growing for 20+ years before it was discovered, and it was "almost too late"!!! It had grown VERY CLOSE to my brain.  My Surgeon had to do a LOT of scraping.  The only reason I "insisted" that there was something wrong was I knew the dizziness that I was having that wouldn't leave was Not Normal and neither were the Horrible Headaches (that I called Brain Freezes in the back of my head).

If you have ever eaten something cold and had that piercing pain in the front of your head that everyone calls a Brain Freeze, well these are constant and they don't leave in the back of the head.  I couldn't stand it anymore and wanted it to stop.  Luckily they found it before it had reached my brain and caused menengitis or worse.

I have heard of people curing their cancer with diets (Suzanne Sommers) but this condition is NOT cancer it just acts like cancer and continues to grow and destroy until it just damages everything in its path.

I was VERY LUCKY that as long as I had mine it didn't do more damage than it did.

PLEASE don't let any of the stories scare you regarding the Surgery.

The only thing that I was concerned about was not getting my surgery done in time because they saw on the CT scan how close it was to my brain.

No one can advise you or tell you what to do, that decision has to be yours and yours alone.  All I can do is share my story to let you know that what you are dealing with can be Very Dangerous and Life Threatening if let go.

    I consider myself "Lucky".

That's why I do my best to share my experience in hopes of helping others with their concerns.

I know others have had some terrible experiences regarding their recoveries but I had my surgery on December 1st 2015 and I was back to work a little over a week later.  I still have some numbness around my ear but I am free of the dizziness and the Horrible Brain Freeze Headaches.

I won't know for a while yet if my Surgeon was successful in getting it all, but I am doing fine and feeling positive.

Hope this helps you and provides you some comfort ; o )

      Hi there,

glad to hear that you got your surgery in time. Sounds like an awful load you were going through. I have had 4 surgeries myself and enough damage but nothing like your experience. I think that must be everyones biggest fear when it comes down to cholesteatoma

You said that it had been growing for 20 years? During those years, did you not have any symptoms besides the headaches before diagnosis? And if any, which symptoms did you have? I have not had a reccurence in 9 years but recently I have suspected that it might be back. I dont have any discharge, infection, but I do have more proliferation/scales of the in my external ear canal, which I don't normally have, and I have fullness in ear and dull pain, sometimes even attacks of stinging pain.

      Hi tery3207

I agree with you. It needs to be treated. It is like cancer in the way it eats everything. Mine too was close to the brain and also on my face nerve. I had new canal attempted and my tinnitus went worse before it got better following surgery.

I am so worried that you are looking for cure in the wrong place and by doing so you are allowing cholesteatoma to spread and destroy more tissues in the ear and skull regions. HOMEOPATHY CANNOT CURE CHOLESTEATOMA . The help you need can only be found from a qualified specialised surgeon and any other method of treatment carries unacceptable risks. Please find help in the correct place and please accept my best wishes for a successful outcome.

Surgery is the only option really. There is someone on my cholesteatoma group on FB that waited too long and is paralyzed on one side of his face and numerous other problems from prolonging surgery.
