Pain under left rib cage

Hi, does anybody else have this dreadful pain at the bottom of their left rib cage? It seems to be coming in waves and has been going on for about 8 hours today. Had it a week or so ago, but it went off after an hour. This time it just isnt going anywhere and not easing at all. Does anyone have any ideas on what it can be?

    Hello,

Firstly sorry to hear you are struggling with this, I have had a condition called Costochondritis since Jan this year & it really is very unpleasant. I got admitted 2 by my doc as they thought I had experienced a heart attack as I was getting servere pains in my chest as well as pain in my ribs & being unable to breath because of it. Had every test under the sun, everything came back clear. Came down to Myalgic pain, sent to Rheumatologist who diagnosed me with the costo. I've lived with Fibromyalgia for 10 yrs but never experienced anything like that before. At the moment the burning, stabbing pains are in my back between my shoulder blades but move from there to my chest & ribs. They are battling one aanother at the mo, its pretty rubbish!

Anti inflams really help me from time to time with the costo.

Worth looking at this link for Costochondritis, it may help it may not.

    Keep smiling & plodding along!

Thank you, I have been and just for back. He didnt have a clue really, but mentioned possible diverticulitis. My temperature was high too but that wasnt a surprise as the sweat is constantly dripping off my head! Every time I go its high and. I am sick of sweating I wipe my forehead with my hand and it comes away saturated every minute at times, especially through the night. It feels like things are crawling through my hair but its sweat dripping through. He has given me abtibiotics for a week anyway and said if its still the same next week then further tests will be done.

Hi hon, look up candidiosa albicans ( yeast overgrowth ) this may well be causing your problems

i had this problem i did a strict yeast free diet for 6weeks simuliar to the atkins , and have been thrush free for about 6yrs now . i do get external itching  from getting  to hot .but not internal thrush .

means  no cheese bread  packaged foods sugar cakes biscuits  etc it really does work but only needs to be done for 6weeks .

you can have unproccesed meat chicken none root vegatables yogarts small amount of unsalted penuts milk nothing prepacked or anything with yeast or sugar in . you can have cream thou .which is a nice treat but no fruit ,

You got it hon, very very strict for a few weeks then very gradually introduce foods until you find what causes your problem, I have been on this diet for over a year, I know now what foods to stay away from, if I don't  then the candida comes back with a vengeance and along with it the pain and inflammation, I stay away from junk fast foods, processed and anything that has been chemically bleached white, ie bread, pasta etc and stay on wholewheat plus potatoes, not just the pain and inflammation but other problems raise their ugly heads, try again and see if you begin to start feeling better

I have looked into this but it says nothing about the type of pain I have. It is sharp pain intermittent just under my left rib cage, no thrush or abdominal cramps, or ear infections, itching or dry mouth, so I dont think it is this, but thank you for advice x

Shazzy, I've experienced a similar pain nigh on 20 years. At the base of by left ribs andit feels like a stitch trapped in a bubble that won't burst. I ended up having a gastriscopy and colonoscopy and was tokd it was "splenic flexure syndrome". Not muvh help knowing that because when I asked how to get rid if it the specialist shrugged and told me to lose weight. I lost weight but I still get the pain. Sorry to be no help but it helps to compare exoerience, I think,

I experienced this last week, it was really painful for 2 days. I took it easy but the same piercing pain moved down and into my back. I have been stiff, had headache, no energy, the pain is waking me up during the night and terrible back ache. I've increased my cocodamol to help relieve the pain, but frightened if I take too many will be constipated....vicious circle...... Any one else feel the same x

I am sorry you have been suffering too. I now feel like I can't post anything on here due to someone saying I am happy to hang on to my pain cos I dont want to let it go! Yes, sure, I am so much happier being on the sick and bed bound a lot, not able to walk my dog cos she died last week, not able to go to my boat and now being in tears cos some kind person on here just made out I am a hypocondriac. (I explained her diagnosis didnt fit but thanked her for her advice-see above and then see her nasty comments) I have been ill for 22 years with this and carried on regardless with work, with walking miles as often as I could, taking my boat out etc, being as positive as possible through buddhism, meditation and relaxation, swimming etc., until last year when the pain got so bad I couldn't move and now need a stick to get out, thats when my hands will allow me to hold it, but hey better not complain. I will never post on here again! Good luck I do hope things get better for you x

Hi thank you for replying...my heart goes out to you. I've only just been diagnosed with fybromyalgia  and never been on a blog like this before, so I'm feeling my way...I have found that meditating relaxes me, my body goes into spasms and even if it's only for 30 mins , it nice to relax to peaceful, soothing music .I found a YouTube meditation for relaxing, anxiety and depression.....it's lovely. Might be worth trying. X

Thank you, i will look that up. I am not feeling as fragile as I was at 3 this morning! Lol

I had my rheumatology appt this morning at 9- only had about 2and a half hours sleep but was really glad i made it. She is doing so much more for me than any other has done. She said a lot of what is going on fits fibromyalgia but she also thinks it could be RA or another auto immune disease. She is being very thorough, x-rayed my hands, wrists, feet, chest and coccyx area and is arranging for detailed scans to find inflammation all over. She also thinks this pain under my rib is coming from my spleen, which is one of the worries I had, as it is the only thing there!

I all it was a positive appt. and I really feel that she will give me a correct diagnosis at last so I can get the right meds. I don't know about anyone else, but my painkillers do very little. Only time I had some relief was with steroids. I axtually delt well enough to go back to work, I was practically dancing around my partners flat in excitement! But doc only prescribed a week cos of all the side effects. Rheumy said she wants me to have all the tests before thinking about prescribing again, but i feel so much mire positive just knowing she is doing so much, it will make a lot of difference!

Do you get spasms all over or whereabouts? I get them only occasionally and usually localised tomy neck.

thanks again, and hope you are having a  good day x

That's interesting! ...my meds still help sometimes,  but it was even better when I used to go to the pain management clinic at our local hospital. I had trigger point injections into my muscles and spine. It worked wonders for 2 years, then I was told the funding for my postcode area was not available anymore.

The spasms I get are all over. Head, neck , back , chest and occasionally my legs shoot out during the night and wake me up. So relaxation techniques and meditation help me relax.

i had to give up work, so when I started the pain management clinic I felt so much better, I went back to work...now I'm relying on meds, no pain relief injections , I'm starting to struggle again.

i believe there is no cure for fybromyalgia, so I take every day as it comes. I  Keep taking the tablets and do what I can when I can....I don't like it, cos this is not me.

hope we both have a better day tomorrow.x

I have actually been out for a night with my sister and bro in law and my partner. We very nearly cancelled as we were so tired but it was arranged about two months ago and paid for so I didnt want yo let them down and really had to make an effort to go. It was brilliant! Lovely food, great singer, all motown and soul songs and great atmosphere, so we were bith so glad we went. Wee both feel so much more positive now after my appt this morning. Hope to have a lie in tomorrow and have asked the kids to keep it quiet if they get up early! Lol

i have been off work a year now and really want to get back at least for a couple of years before we go off to live on the canal on a narrowboat, cant wait for that, so peaceful and relaxing, great life and does wonders for relaxation!

I have managed to keep the pain down today for most of it, bad now but thats ok I expect it after being out, so thats fine.  Head spasms? Blimey that must be dreadful, the other areas must be bad enough! What have they said about them? Are you still managing to work?

hope you have a good day tomorrow too x
