Painful pins and needles throughout whole body

I'm a 16 year old male, and a few months ago I started experiencing very frustrating and painful pins and needles whilst doing certain things such as excercise, washing dishes (hands in hot water) and vaccuming the house.

The feeling is unbearable, it's as if someone was poking a red hot needle out from under the surface of my skin - it's way beyond a normal itch or something you can shake off or ignore, and this happens throughout my head, back, chest, arms and lower legs.

Each time it happens I rub the part of the body until it goes away, but at that same time it starts happening in another place and because of this I always have to stop what I'm doing and it lasts for about 2 or 3 minutes. After it goes away I can go back to what I'm doing, and as far as I remember this hasn't happened twice on the same day even if I continue doing the same task I was previously doing.

Is this something I should consider seeing a doctor about, or because it started happening a few months ago is there a chance it could go away? Also, if anyone knows what this could be then I'll be hugely appreciative if you could share that information.

Thanks!

If it has been going on for a few months I would definitely check it out with your doctor. It may just be something silly like vit B12 deficiency, but at least they can check you out.

I too agree - sounds like something going on with the nerves and could be from low B12.  Please do see a doctor, Kacper - I wish you luck!!

    Hi Kacper

You must see a doctor, this really should not be going on.

Does sound like a problem with nerve endings, but I must admit, I have never heard anyone having it all over there body, sounds serious.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes.

    Hi Kacper,

Is this something that comes and goes with physical exercise, or warm water? Does this happen when you are under the sun or in warm weather? What is your sweating level, do you sweat a little, a lot, or average? Do you have any other symptoms? Several things can cause this, and agree with the others, Vit deficiency could be one of the causes. But unless we know more information, if any other symptoms in other parts of the body (hopefully not), hard to say.

Please get back to us when you have a chance.

Hello thanks for your post. I don't recall this happening in the sun, and it doesn't always necessarily happen when doing physical activities - for example, yesterday this started happening whilst doing homework.

But from what I can remember this only happens when I'm warm (not sweating or exhausted) but in room temperate, and it hasn't really happened when I was cold. When I do sweat it's usually very little or average.

A few years ago I've been to a specialist at the hospital about my vision blacking out on a regular basis - after doing some tests it was concluded that the cause was my blood pressure when getting up too quickly or moving too fast so I was advised to consume more salt than usual in my meals - but other than that I don't have anything else medically related and have a strong immune system.

Having low blood pressure should not cause the symptoms you now have. You should go to a doctor having listed the problems you are having.

      Hi Kacper,

Thanks for your response. If this contiues to happen, this could be paresthesias and could be a result of some type of peripheral neuropathy. Important to find out what is causing this. Are you taking any medication that could lead to this? Is the air ventilation fine where you live or do homework? Have you noticed any skin changes or abdominal symptoms? Do you have any other conditions running in your family?

Definitely make an appointment with a neurologist or a generalist, to do some more blood test or neuro exams, to assess the causes. Again, could be something as benign as Vit deficiency, but certainly get checked to exclude other causes.

Stay in touch and let us know how things are going!
