Pregnant with PCOS and worried!!

Posted , 8 users are following.

Just found out I am roughly 6 weeks pregnant and I have PCOS.  I was on fertility drug clomifene a year ago however came off it soon after as I was having bad side effects.  One year later and I am now pregnant naturally! I am delighted obviously however my happiness is plighted with horror stories I am reading online about high miscarriage rates.  Can anyone give me any reassuring information?  Won't be due my scan for another 6 weeks and it's worrying me sick.

Hi I have had pcos for 3 years and was on metformin and I got pregnant I will be 12 weeks tomorrow. I was scared sick I went to specialist right when I found out I was pregnant and they told me once you get pregnant you are just like any other pregnant lady. And the only high risks there is with pcos is high blood pressure and diabetes. But if you stay in metformin it will prevent miscarriage. And hey say the first trimester is when miscarriages happen and I will be past that tomorrow. I just left my ultrasound and doctor said he would be surprised if I miscarried. But as women pcos or not we have to know that if we do miscarry it wasn't because you did something wrong but because it wasn't meant to be at that time but don't give up. I get like I would never be able to have my own kids now I am pregnant it's a miracle I say and I say the same for you congratulations. Just keep thinking happy thoughts

Thanks Jeniffer my mind is a bit more at ease now ! I had almost convinced myself I would miscarry, your reply has cheered me up. I'm not as far on as you are unfortunately, only 6/7 weeks, I haven't even seen my midwife yet, should get my phone call for that this week,  may ask if I can have my scan a little early with my PCOS history. xxx

Yeah and if you are on metformin you should stay on it or ask your doctor if they recommend you start taking it cause it decreases the chance of miscarry and diabetes which is great. Let me know how your appointment goes wish you all the best

Hi Brooke, I am in an almost identical position. We have just found out I'm about 5-6 weeks pregnant after taking clomid and metformin for the last 7 months. I am also really excited, but the same as you, very worried about miscarrying and all the other stories you read about women with PCOS. My doctor has said to keep on the metformin and is going to scan me at 8 weeks because he knows how worried I am. Might be worth asking for an earlier scan to stop the worrying. Good luck!! xx

Hello! I found out I had PCOS when I was 18yrs (now 34yrs), came off the pill in December and just found out that I am also pregnant, around 6/7 weeks like you! Was so shocked as I thought it would take years to conceive. Although I have been on Metformin since I was 18yrs so think this has helped. I pretty much feel exactly the same as you. I've been trawling the internet and reading the same horror stories as you too, which is making me feel anxious. I'm almost convinced I'll miscarry, and any twinge I feel I start to panic. Also, I had a bit of pink dicharge the other day which freaked me out, but was told this can be normal. I know this is not reassurance for you, but just wanted you to know you're not alone. It's a long way off for the 12 weeks scan and I just want it to come quickly! I suppose the only thing we can do is look after ourselves and try not be stressed. I have been told that Metformin can help prevent miscarriages so I'm hoping that helps. Maybe you should speak to you Doctor about getting a prescription? I'm sure you'll be fine, you just have to believe it. Take care and good luck. Let me know how you get on x

Thanks for all your replies, it's nice to know I'm not alone ! I have never been on Metformin, doctor hasn't mentioned it, neither did the midwife today when I phoned her.  Have my first appointment with her April 27th so will ask her about it then or may just make an appointment with my GP and ask him about it ?  Told her about my worries re miscarriage due to my pcos and asked if I could have an early scan however was told that they only do this for people who have suffered miscarriages before - this is my first pregnancy so looks like I'm going to have to wait another long 6 weeks ! I'm the same, any slight cramp in my stomach and I run to the toilet in a panic ! Problem is, I just don't feel pregnant ! I know I'm only 6 weeks however thought I would have been having some symptoms by now.  I don't know if it's just because we have tried to get pregnant for so long I'm now finding it a bit hard to take in !  Just wish the 12 week scan would hurry so I could relax and begin to enjoy the pregnancy as it just seems to be all worry and paranoia at the minute ! xxx

I know how you feel! I don't feel pregnant either. I'm bloated and have mild lower back ache now and again but that's about it. I thought I would feel at least nauseous or sore boobs but I dont have that at all. Makes me worried why I don't have the symptoms. Once again I have been trawling the internet about this and other women have the same worry. My sister said she didn't feel anything until about 9 weeks so I guess it's just to see what happens (another waiting game)! It's horrible to be constantly worried when this should be a time of excitement and joy, but with all the worry about miscarriage etc it doesn't make it easy! I hope you do go on to have a successful pregnancy and I wish you all the luck in the world. Try to keep positive and believe in the magic xxx

I'm the same ! Can't believe I'm actually praying for morning sickness !! Hopefully I start to have some symptoms soon as that would make me feel a little better, like there is something actually going on in there !! Would have been ideal if they would have agreed to an early scan but as I said they said they dont do that unless women have had a few miscarriages already.  I am waiting on a phone call back from my GP regarding a prescription for metformin so will see what he says.  Wish I hadn't read some of the things I have on the internet but can't help myself ! Keep trying to think positive, get really excited at times then really down and worried at others.  Not in the least enjoyable at the moment which is disheartening as I've wanted for so long to fall pregnant xxx

hi ladies. I was a lot more nervous in the first weeks just like you all are I have seen three specialist that have all told me not to worry only serious problems are high blood pressure and diabetes. And metformin will prevent diabetes. I didn't feel pregnant either until week 8 I started getting tired all the time then week 10 I started getting sick after eating Now that I am at week 12 I have been trying to just stay positive. I get nervous right before my ultrasounds but once I see the baby all my worries go away. I just want to say congratulations to all of you girls and i wish you all good health and a healthy baby!!

Thanks Jennifer 😘 keep telling myself that no signs is a good thing and if anything was wrong I'd likely have pain or bleeding but don't have anything. Thought I'd be more excited than I am but the worry is taking over especially with having to wait another 6 weeks for a scan!! Praying I begin to have some positive pregnancy signs soon xxx

Hi. I've had pcos since 2007. & I've recently lost 5st in weight & after 9yrs of trying have found out I'm pregnant. I'm now 9weeks. Bit I've read so much scary stuff about being pregnant with pcos online I'm so scared. My midwife told me she doesn't see me as high risk or in need of early scan or check up or anything. I'm worried sick with 3wks still till my 1st scan. I don't know weather to get a second opinion. But i don't want to be a nuisance patient sad
