Pressure in head

Posted , 5 users are following.

I have had constant head pressure/headache now for 5 weeks. It started out as a tingling in my hand and face a heavy arm and resulted in a trip to a&e. Referral was made to tia clinic and a Stroke was ruled out and the specialist put it down to migrane. Various visits to the doctor as pressure is constant. Tried paracetamol, cocodamol and paracetamol nothing works. Had mri last tuesday so until results come back doctor wont give me anything. I've suffered with migranes for years so i don't think this is one. I'm fearing the worst as this is just relentless. I go to bed like this n wake up like this. I admit to being a bit of a worrier so maybe that's making it worse. Ive been on paroxetine in the past but ive not been on them for over a year now. At my wits end. The only time i don't feel anything is when I'm asleep 😔 I would rather stay asleep until this goes.

A MRI will be able to give an answer. It could a number of things but my philosophy is "don't borrow trouble." I'm sorry for your worry and pain. Sending up prayers for you. Plz update when you get answers.

I had the same symptoms for over 3 years. Fortunately I had the best health insurance and had various tests done and they all came up positive.

Was deemed with "tension headaches", "high blood pressure", "stress and anxiety". I can ensure none of those were what was wrong with me.

Finally I came on here and did my own research. I went to an ENT and had a cat scan done of my sinus cavity. I was diagnosed with sphenoid sinusitis and they put me on a 300 mg antibiotic that I take 2 times a day and for 3 weeks. It's day 4 and I feel normal again finally. I was told the infection might come back and I'll need surgery but this has been ruining my life for 3 years. Doctors don't care. They just want your money and want you in and out as fast as possible. I hope this helps!!

I had ultrasounds of my abdominal and thyroid. I had (2) MRI's of the brain and a cat scan of the brain. I had 2 eye exams. I had an upper endoscopy and everything came up normal.

I highly recommend looking into seeing an ENT and asking to get a cat scan of your sinus cavity!

I'm pleased you are getting somewhere. I've just had sphenoid sinus surgery 4 days ago, still in a lot of pain but hoping it will be worth it. I honestly think the sphenoid sinus cavity is the origin of the problem in a lot of these head pressure cases. I don't think there's been enough research done on it though and doctors don't even know what it is.

Got the results and I do have a "severe" or "chronic" sinus infection. They put me on a 300 mg, 2 a day antibiotic that I'm taking (2) times a day. If the infection comes back, I'll have to have surgery.

How was your surgery? How long were you out of work? What exactly do they do?

Sorry for the questions but I'm curious if I have to go that route.

Hi, I'm glad they found your problem. Sphenoid sinus problems seem often to go overlooked.

I had surgery on Wednesday so this is Day 5. Surgery was to open up my sphenoid sinus cavity and straighten my deviated septum. This should improve drainage. I'm still in a lot of pain and still feel the pressure but hoping it will subside soon. Surgeon says 2 weeks to feel the benefits but maybe 2 months to feel the full effect and recover.

What are your main symptoms? Headaches with pressure? Does this increase when bending down etc?

Precisely that. Extremely bad head pressure behind the eyes, nose, sides of head, back of head. I noticed when I did Ab Planks at the gym, the pressure in my head got much worse.

How is the surgery done? Up the nose or do they cut you open?

They go in through your nose with a camera and small cutters, took about 1 hour 30, I was out as well.

In the end I went for the surgery as it's never really got better in a year and a half. Had to stop exercising as the symptoms would increase and I'd get a bad headache. It's basically ruined my life and gone undiagnosed for well over a year. Hopefully this surgery will finally sort it out.

Good luck with your treatment, if you have any further questions just ask.

Your symptoms do sound like sphenoid sinusitis. Let us know what the MRI says. Remember also that a CT scan of sinuses is the best way to diagnose sinus problems, don't let doctors tell you an MRI sees the same as it doesn't.
