Pretty sure I have herpes....

Hello,

Couple of days after having sex with the wife. I had two blisters on my penis while at that time, my missus had some sort of a yeast infection as diagnose by the doctor.

After those two blisters came and dissapeared. My penis was so swollen and tender and my foreskin was all messed up (swollen terribly) and hurt to pee.

Went to see one doctor but she reckon it was a urinal infection after doing a pee test which apparently showed I had two many white blood cells (something along that line) and after a week - did another test and the the white blood cells reduced significantly.

I went to see another doctor who is urologist and also went down the same route and did the pee test and show the same results such as while blood cell reduced or minimsed and said that I had an infection. But it is taken ages to recover especially this one pimple on my foreskin that takes forever to die off. So he got me to do a blood test - one test for something and the other for Sphyllis. Waiting on results.

Went to the third doctor and he reckons I may have herpes according to my symptoms.

I have no idea what to think.

Note - after a week of the two blisters appearing. I had like 5 blisters that appeared in a group - this is what make me think that i have herpes but it is weird that two blisters showed up couple of days after sex and then a week later a group of them showed up.

I am into my fifth week now and I am nearly back to 100 percent. Just the pimple on my foreksin that took ages to go away.

My apology for mutiple reply/post as I dont know how to edit the oringal post. Here is a pic after one week. Probably the worse week as you can see the foreskin is so swollen.

Yup, looks like herpes. I cannot believe they have not swabbed you when the blisters were present.

How long did it take to go away?

    • Posted

The blisters on my penis went away about 4 or 5 days but the pimples/blisters inside the foreskin took like 4/5 weeks.

Were the blisters like open and red at any point? During my first outbreak the sores were very open and red and looked like proper blisters, yours almost look more wart like.

I'm in no way an expert obviously but from my experience the doctors that I saw didn't seem to know much about herpes at all and I got a few different diagnosis before I eventually went to a specialist GUM clinic where they instantly recognised it as herpes.

It's probably worth both you and your wife going to a clinic and getting checked out, I found them to be so much more helpful than my usual doctor as they are experts in these things and were able to give me so much more support and advice.

Katie, herpes presents differently in every one. Men's penises are a lot more dry, so they tend to get scabs after a blister bursts, where women tend to get ulcers if we do have sores at all.

Those are scabs hun.. Not warts.

Sorry I didn't mean to give false information like I say I'm definitely no expert smile I think my main point was just don't trust the first diagnosis if it doesn't seem right to you

Are you even mentioning herpes to them? Because when you're married, I feel they either don't even think about it or they feel awkward to suggest it and create any discord. Either way, they sound like idiots.

Herpes can present itsekf like a yeast infection. As I've gone longer w having herpes, I now am able to tell a herpes itch from a yeast infection.

Sounds very possibly like herpes. I recommend getting a blood test, but if you are newly infected, it will take time to build antibodies. So you will need to go back to bebteated in 3 months.

No I didn't mention herpes as I wasn't sure what was going on and I never thought it was herpes in the first place until I started searching the Internet.

But yes, I think the urologist is the most incompetent of the bunch as he kept saying my penis was infected cause I am uncircumcised and I am unable to pull the skin back to clean it properly and etc.

The scabs went away about a week. But the patch is discoloured. Anything I can do to change the discolouration?

The most damage was done to my foreskin where it literally flared up and was so swollen with pimples/blisters inside my foreskins. The blisters on my penis wasn't the main issue in terms of pain.

Some softies will recommend and say things, just so they cab make money. I had an ENT do that one about my slight deviates septum and said it would get worse w time.. All BS. He just wanted me to get it fixed, so he could make money.

The discoloration will go away, just give it time. It leaves a red spot and slight indentation on me for some time as well and eventually disappears.

Due to your foreskin covering the area, you had more moisture trapped there which is likely why it was worse there. Just make sure you are doing a good job of pulling it back and cleaning daily. Use gold bond powder or something to sprinkle when you pull it back or baking soda to keep dry.

When you experience sores, keep as dry and clean as possible. Soaking in Epsom salt baths for a good bit makes a works of a difference. So good it back as you soak .. It clears sores up fast if you do it daily till they go away.

Thanks. Yeah with all the pee test and etc. I swear they were making money off me. Even deep down with all the signs. I kinda knew I had herpes which is dissapoiting.

Yeah, I knew I had it too 3 days after infection. I had a cluster of fissures.. Looked nothing like what you see on line... Buy I knew.. My blood test came back negative, but culture positive. Too soon for body to build antibodies.

What does your wife have to say about all this? I'm going to assume you've not stepped out in her right?

Sorry for typos.. I type fast and on my phone.. I meant to pull your foreskin back when you soak in the tub. I'm on daily suppressive therapy and I could breakout w a bump and have it there for over a week.nif I take nightly Epsom salt baths, it is gone in two days..

Yeah I told her about it. I have been with her for 4 years and we always used a condom but as of late we are trying for a baby. However, never used condom for oral sex. The only think I can think of is that she had a yeast infection and had thrush when we did it which probably wasn't a wise idea.

I am not sure how herpes are created in the first place.

I just don't get why now maybe it was due to yeast infection/thrush from her?

So there are one of 2 scenarios and you getting a test to determine what type of herpes yiu have will tell you.

      1. If it is HSV 1, then you may have gotten it from oral sex.

      2. If it is HSV 2, suddenly stop using condoms, she had what she thought was a yeast infection;.. Sounds like she was asymptomatic carrier and may have had it all these years. Her symptoms display as a yeast infection and not like text book symptoms like you had.

What is her reaction to all of this?

She feels really bad for the pain that I went through. I think she gets cold sores before but as I said if she did have herpes - wouldn't I have contacted it a long time ago via oral sex?

She might have been a carrier but didn't really know that she had it. As said, we are trying for a baby and prior to that she had a checkup and etc and they said she was healthy but who knows what that means.

We started having sex without the condom for like 6 months.

As I said, just disappointed to get it now. No point blaming anyone really as it's not going to change anything.

I was told that if I get pregnant I need to tell the midwife that I have the herpes virus as they will need to try and make sure an outbreak doesn't occur during the pregnancy so I'd say it's definitely worth your wife getting checked out if you're trying for a baby

No, not necessarily.... There was a woman on here who has been married for 30yrs and just now contracted herpes via oral sex..

I think she may have HSV 2 on her genitals and be asymptomatic.. Hence, her having what she thought was a yeast infection, may actually be ger herpes flaring up. You gotta get a blood test, that's the only way you'll know and she definitely needs to be the sted as well, because if you guys are trying to get pregnant, you need to know, so she can take valtrex the last trimester before she gives birth. So you both need to go asap for blood work..

Herpes is not included in full std panels.. People make the assumption when they has for a full workup, that herpes is included and it is not. You have to ask for it. If she's never specifically asked from the doctor that she wants a herpes test, she's never had one.

Has nothing to do about having an ob during the pregnancy, that is fine. Has to do w having an ob during delivery, hence having to take antivirals the last trimester to try and prevent that.
    • Posted

Yeah it's to do with the baby being born through the herpes infection it can be harmful can't it
    • Posted

Yes, very... But But to give you peace of mind, I have 4 gfs that have had multiple babies vaginal and never passed their herpes infection on to them. They took valtrex the last trimester only.

What you mean when you said "she definitely needs to be sted as well"? What's sted? Thanks.

And thanks everyone for their inputs especially "feel broken" for towing the time to respond. Didn't have anyone to turn to. My wife is a bit clueless when it comes to herpes even though she means well. And can't exactly discuss with my mates as I feel ashamed. Though, with some of them sleeping around, I wouldn't be surprised if they have it too. Herpes wasn't somebting I consider contacting in my life as I always used condoms and etc.

The irony of it all I guess.

Sorry, I respond from my phone and type super fast, so I have many typos.

I meant she needs to be TESTED as well.

Ahh.. Thanks, definitely not a problem CaiJai and I'm here always for any questions you guys may have. Feel free to pm me anytime if need be. I just really care about people getting the correct information, as the lack of it is a huge cause of the ignorance that perpetuates the virus.

Listen, don't you ever feel ashamed! Don't you ever! Don't you EVER let that word enter your mind again to describe what you have and to define you! You would be shocked by the numbers of people who have it. Over 80% of people who have genital herpes, don't even know they have it because they don't have symptom's like you and I. In the US, 1 in 4 women have it (women are more susceptible to it, because we have more mucosous skin than men) & 1 in 8 men have genital herpes. This is no different than anyone who walks around w a "fever blister or cold sore".. It is the sane virus.

I have 6 female friends I know w herpes and 3 males I know w herpes. Believes me, it is more common than you know, people just don't talk about it, beaus of the unnecessary stigma big pharma creatd, in order to make money off of antivirals. Herpes wasn't event labeled an STD prior yo the 70s when big pharma came out w a drug for it and in order to get their investment back, they had to create fear. In fact, there is an article I read from 82 or 85, of doctors stating herpes was the cause of cervical cancer!!! What we all know now, was that it wasn't heroes causing that, it was HPV!!! Big pharma is the one who invests in medicine and studies, so it benfitis then to spread stuff like this around. .

It is natural to feel the way you do. We all do when we first learn of it. I promise you, this shall pass. You will learn to view it objectively and just a minor annoyance. Your recurrent obs will not be painful like this, just annoying.

There are plenty of people on this forum who contracted it using condoms. Condoms only provide a 30-50% protection and being we all have oral sex, you don't use xonfins then, so you're really playing Russian roulette then.

I guarantee quite a dew if your buddies have it. Men just don't talk like women do. We have problems w keeping things in. We have to vent. Very rarely have I seen females on this site keep it to themselves only and their partner if they have one. Most disclose to family or close friends. There have been stories on here where a person was scared to tell a friend, then they do and their friend says I do too!! But nobody needs to know really... You will come to terms w this, I promise and a time will come, where you will snicker over your reaction to this, because it's really no big deal. I'm always here, just an email awaym keep your head up! You're still the same good man you were before this virus and after it. I changes nothing about you, do you understand that?

Thanks again for the words of wisdom, feelbroken. I do appreciated you to sing the time to respond. I feel positive most of the times now after reading things on this foroum but every now and then (even though it has been only 5 weeks) I feel resentment and disappointed of myself. It's something that I have to adapt to. I guess there is more to life then to worry about something like this. Just have to get my mind around it.

      Thanks again.

Like I said, totally normal and it is very soon. One day you'll look back and feel like you were being silly, just don't live in that space too long. Allow yourself tobgrueve, but don't stay there. Look at it this way, tell me in one way your life or you have changed for the worst because of this?/how its it going to negatively impact your life, in a way that it hinders the quality of your life?

It'll help you to ask yourself those questions, so you're targeting logical reasoning and not allowing your emotions to be controlled by the stigma itself.

Totally normal... You'll get there. Hey, if you didn't have a reaction at all, I'd think thayvsas weird! Lol....

Very true. I am glad that you are on this foroum. Changed my perspective a lot.
