I have rough red skin on my forehead and the palm of my hands turn a brigh red when my HCT numbers climb and I find this a good indicator that I need a phlebotomy.  Have you tried moisturizing cream??? or seen a dermatologist???

    Good luck!!

Forgot to ask if you have an underlying disease such as this internet site

usually answers questions regarding the disease Polycythemia vera.

PV for short.  If you do not have PV then maybe you were directed

to the wrong site.  I still think you need a specialist (not a GP) I have been thru 2 other cancers besides Pv and a specializing doctor is always the best and saves concerns in the long run.

Most certainly Clicker should see a dermatologist, rather than another specialist.  Maybe he has been rather long in a hot sun with the symptoms he explains.

Thank you I do have PV diagnosed a few months ago. GP is going to do a biopsy and have it checked out. Might be Bowens but not sure. Very treatable if it turns out to be that. He has looked after me well so I feel safe in his care.

Thanks Peter, no hot sun for me I live in the North of England. You will see that my GP is doing a biopsy so we'll see how it goes. Thanks for your reply.

I do not understand your concerns...if you are happy with your GP..or maybe you just want comparisons from others...which it obviously appears to be.  You may have something outside of PV that needs treatment. I am from Nottingham now in the USA.  Always good to communicate with another Brit.

Just saw my GP today who advised what to do. Wondered if anyone else out there had a similar problem that's all.

Thanks for your reply Clicker.  Just to say that skin problems are not unknown with PV and can be a side effect of some treatments,  Just rely on your medics who will have your interests in mind.  If your GP is uncertain of anything he(she) will probably refer you to a Haematologist.  It won't happen overnight though.  Try not to jump to conclusions, things can be very complicated.

Thanks Peter. The haemotologist did not think it was associated with PV. He recommended GP.

Well, that has to be good news really.  PV is not in your best interests and you will be better without it.

Hi Peter. I have been diagnosed with PV 6 months ago. I thought the skin problem might be part of the condition but told it wasn't, so sent to GP. Generally I am well. Ive had 3 venesections, first two at monthly intervals then a 3 month gap so feel quite lucky!

      Hello Clicker,

Sorry you do have the problem of PV but just take it easy and go with your medics advice.  Skin problems in my view are more associated with treatment side effects. Personally I have not known it present at early stages of diagnosis but such are the vaguiaries of the disorder it is always possible.
