Prolapsed bowel, any experience?

Posted ,

I would like to speak to anyone who has been diagnosed with a prolapsed bowel and gone on to have surgery, a ventral mesh retropescy and found it unsuccessful in so far as their symptoms are still just as bad post surgery.  I have suffered mine for four and a half years, and had surgery three and a half years ago which made no difference, how are we supposed to cope?

I open my bowels 16 - 22 times a day, imodium does NOT work, it causes iritation, painfully hard stools and I am just as frequent, what remedies do sufferers know of that might help me?

Cheers, Fiona

Fiona I've had the same op3 months ago . No change just like you ,in fact it's worse .my 6 week checkup with consultant is in 8weeks time I sympathise with you as its painful and inconvenient . I have painful piles as well .the only relief I get is when I'm in bed as sitting standing etc as to the pain. I'm afraid I have no  knowledge of any remedies to help you . I use Imodium as a last resort. I alternate between a day of frequent bms days when I don't go at all. I have the feeling that there is a stool sitting there all the time whatever. I started with the problems 5years ago  kept going to the GP to be told there's nothing wrong. Finally after 2 years I saw a GP new to the surgery who sent me to see a specialist. Took 2 years until the op even then I had to keep phoning the consultant to ask when it would be done. I know all this bleating doesn't help you but I can show you some sympathy as I know what you are going through .im probably older than you as I am in my 70s  like you I want to have some relief from all the pain and inconvieience?have you tried cutting fibre out of your diet I eat very little fibre and it has helped slightly. Fibre isn't all it's supposed to be we are told. It's vital but I have a couple  of friends who have had to cut down on it as it gives them  diarrhoea . Good luck Fiona

Oh Maddie, thank you so much for your response dear. It's tough, isn't it? Some of the ignorance I have come across, tactlessness and rudeness and people asking you to repeat yourself over and over again and then blaming you for long letters, well, you wouldn't fathom it, andvive had a particulsrly bad example of it today but don't want to depress you likewise ;-) .The only way is to keep on at them, keep lookingbupbinfornation independently and then who knows, maybe light at the end of the tunnel. I have diverticulsr as well and beginning to realise increasingly that could be the cause of some of my problems, I wish you well and always here if you need to talk, very best wishes, Fiona

By the way, I totally get what you mean about fibre, a relative of mine was convinced eating bran would solve all my problems, I said it would make me ill, there is too much "/one size fits all" and my sister agrees with me !! Lol
