Question about Hearing Disorder

My son is a college student. He is hearing impaired in his right ear. He also has Patulous Eustachian Tube Dysfunction. It is treated with a tube in his ear. The tube popped out in the beginning of the semester, he saw his ENT and there was a blood clot blocking the tube, had to use drops to break it up and the soonest he could be scheduled for surgery is next week, which is the end of the semester.

He was supposed to do a presentation, however because his hearing is so distorted he asked to be excused from doing the presentation. He did agree to do it after his surgery. Ok....my question finally, lol

His professor told him he should have scheduled the surgery earlier, which as many of you probably know, you can't tell the surgeon when he is going to do the surgery. She told him to call up the surgeon and tell him your grade is going to be reduced by 10% if this problem isn't corrected in time for you to do your presentation. Any suggestions???

Yes. Not sure about where you are from but here in Australia they can't discriminate against people with disabilities and have to provide support if they expect him to do it on time. Look on Youtube for a video with a girl who explains patulous eustachian tube suffering. I have tried to post the address in the past but the moderators remove my posts. Send it to the teacher and forward it to the head of department with an email quoting whatever you can Google to support your letter regarding disability discrimination. They will sh*t themselves if you mention legal action because they know they can't do this. Good luck!!

The moderators have removed my post to you again. Not sure why but look up laws on disability discrimination in your country and quote them with a mention of legal action. There is a video online of a girl that suffers with patulous eustachian tubes. She explains in wonderful detail, how debilitating this is. Forward a link to the video, the one YOU would find on a TUBE with your email about legal action!! Good luck!!!

Thanks again!!! Do you have Patulous? Just curious, have you found anything that helps? I'm from NJ and my son was followed at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, however, he had to find a new ENT because of his age. He saw a doctor at University of Pennsylvania, he is supposed to be excellent. He will be putting a T-tube in this time, hopefully it will stay in longer. He told my son, if this is going to be an ongoing problem he should find someone else. A real creep with no beside manners! Anyway, lol, we're in search of a new knowledge ENT, that is good as well as understanding! If you know of anyone I would really appreciate any help you can offer. I know this is a long shot, just thought I'd ask! Thanks again!

Hi Kelly, no I don't have patulous but I am very interested in testing for it and increasing awareness of it. It can be a devastating condition, which even specialists don't understand or know how to diagnose. Google ENT specialists around your area. Hopefully you can find out who specialises in this disorder. There may be an ENT professional body in America who can direct you to the right place. Let me know how you go!! x
