Hi alll

Recently diagnosed in June this year with sarcoidosis had a relatively normal life until this hit, my question is when you get a head cold or indeed a chest cold is it worse? What are the effects or signs to look out for? Anything that helps ?

Any help is appreciated

    Hi Colin,

I was diagnosed in March of this year. I am on reducing dose steroids and will continue on them until next year sometime. I have wondered about that myself. Luckily I haven't had any colds etc yet. Being on steroids reduces your immune response and it makes it easier for you to contract infections. The best thing is to avoid anyone you know that is sick and take precautions. Speak to your doctor right away if you feel unwell in any way. Maybe ask them about getting the flu vaccine. This probably isn't very helpful. Hopefully you won't get anything.

    Regards,

      Hi Colin,

If it feels like that it would be no harm going to your doctor to get it checked out. Sarcoidosis can affect every part of you I am afraid to say. Hope you feel better soon

      Hi Colin

I have it on my spleen kidneys lungs and legs.

I have been on steroids since October and have been reducing them from 35 mg and now I am on 4 mg a day so happy about that however since November i have had at least 3-4 chest/ lung infections head colds and worst of all a serious bowel infection which I was hospitalised for a week for. My eye sight has worsened and my appetite increased alot which lead to weight gain however steroids bloated my face and stomach anyway.

At the moment I'm suffering from dizziness and headaches but holding off for another week or so to see my doc.

Stay clear of anyone who is sick, but being honest with you you can't wrap yourself up.in bubble wrap, your immune system will weaken without a doubt and you will catch infections but just rest and try eat the best you can trust me it helps.

The steroids have worked so.far for the sarcoid so I am happy for that they have saved my life.

Thanks for the reply, I hope you're feeling better too, it's a tough illness to deal with , I didn't realise the immune system suffered but hopefully I can change that I've changed my diet to lots of fruits and more veg and reduced other things too take some vitamins too

      Hey,

Before the steroids my immune was weak still, kidney infections, joint pain and colds and coughs were the.main ones so just try to look after yourself the best you can. I have more posts on her Colin, have a read the info might help you.

      Are you in the UK?

      Hey

No I'm not in the UK hope that doesn't matter found this site by just looking for more info it's good to ask questions with people who have the condition too

      Hi,

It's an auto immune disease. Try stay away from multi vitamins, vitamin d amd calcium, they are like fuel.to the fire, sarcoidosis feeds off of these, trust me I have experience from this also my specialist here in Dublin has advised me of this.

No that doesn't matter, sure I'm in Ireland I found it doing exactly the same.

Yea vit c is great also try some anti inflammatory vegetables and fruits, also ginger, liquorice and turmeric.

Ask me what you like, I can help the best I can.

Thanks very much you're a great help

Anti inflammatory fruits and veg?? Can you clarify

Ok pineapples, garlic, cauliflower, mint, cucumber, spinach, sea kelp, seaweed, like I said liquorice but from a health shop not a sweet shop.

Best thing is to juice everything that way you get it all in one hit., I make pineapple, spinach, cucumber, celery, ginger, lemon and pear. Try make it 80% veg and 20% fruits. Also add the turmeric too.
