Hey everyone
Just wanted to share my 'experience' of having a cyst. I have had severe image problems most of my life (I'm currently 19, soon to be 20), and at the end of last year was diagnosed as being body dysmorphic. Literally about 4 days later, I had a black, small flat dot come up on my face. At first, before I had looked in the mirror, I thought it was probably an inflamed spot, as that was what it felt like. I looked in the mirror and recoiled in horror as I thought I was getting a new mole come up on my face. It was bang in the middle of my left cheek. I left it a week, but by now it had grown to about 4mm, was round and blue/purple, so I went to my docs. He told me that it was just a mole and nothing to worry about, but said it was infected so gave me some antibiotics. A week later, it had grown even bigger and become raised by about 6/7mm. It was the size of a large pea, really visible, impossible to cover up with makeup, and made me not leave the house I felt so hideously ugly. It kept changing colour from browns, blues, reds, purples, yellows, blacks and whites. Eventually after seeing many different doctors they told me it was actually a sebaceous cyst and my doc referred me to a specialist as they were concerned about it. Currently it is about 7mm, and that amount raised too, and is a mixture of green, yellow, purple, brown and red. It is so painful and itchy. I also keep getting 'prickly heat' type pains going through it every now and again. I am currently awaiting the appt and am hoping for the best. I am a poor student and cannot afford hundreds to get it removed =[

I had a similar experience. A lump on my face appeared which i thought nothing about and left alone but over time it grew bigger and changed in colour sometimes (it got to the point where me and my girlfriend named it Rita lol) I went to go and see my GP who put me on antibiotics to reduce the swelling. I was referred to a skin specialist/plastic surgeon due to it being on my face where they had to see how best to surgically remove it. The operation was under general anasthetic and quite traumatic but not painful - all in all from seeing the GP and skin specialist it took about 1 month to be removed. I now have a scar on my face but it is getting less obvious and doesn't really bother me (don't care what people think) Recently after that though i developed another lump on my neck which alas has turned out to be another cyst - oh well it could be worse!
Hope it all turns ok for you and don't worry what people think as there is more important things in life to worry about!!!!
