Severe knee pain 14 months after tkr. Why???

Posted , 12 users are following.

I had my knee replaced in June of 2015. It still hurts like crazy. I did all of my pt and now am back for round 2. I've been to 2 orthopedic surgeons and nobody can find anything wrong with it. I've had to have it drained 4 times since my surgery and it's about time again. So tired of it and so fatigued. I'm only 47! Somebody please please help me!

Have you tried the ortho group that works with your local pro/college teams?  That's where I'd go...

What's causing the fluid to build up is what you should address. You could also have a defective prosthetic. Did they do xrays? I would try another orthopedic surgeon. As the saying goes the tird time is a charm.

I am a little confused about why your knee needs to be drained if there is nothing wrong with it? That just doesn't sound right to me, as a nurse and as a TKR patient. I sure hope you get some reasonable answers soon because what you are going through doesn't sound quite right.

I'm 7 weeks post op... I readall of your posts every night when I can't sleep... of course.... you all enlighten me about my choice to have this operation.... I'm so lucky... I walked after 2weeks..I stopped meds after 3 weeks... I drive after4 weeks... I did my own PT.... no one is ever going to touch my knee and hurt it again...I massage 6 times a day with coconut oil and swim. Im 60 now.... and I'm not having a young doctor tell me I need 120 movement on my knee.... I raised 5 children on my own.. put them all through University.. and have 7 grandchildren.... I got this.....Have determination and faith in your own healing....I have no cufew about my healing.....every day something great happens.... Ive cancelled all of my appts ...Stay strong and believe in yourself.......

I am by no means an expert on these things, and hope this isn't the case, but any chance you're having allergic reaction to the implant? I read that can be a very rare complication. I am very sorry to hear of your pain and wish you luck.

I am wondering the same thing as I can't wear cheap earrings either. The second surgeon sId he tested the fluid from my knee for it but I thought they did a skin test for metal allergies?

I'm sorry to hear of your troubles. How many months after surgery did you first need to get your knee drained? I think you should go to see a third surgeon but make sure it is a different practice group.

About 4 months. I plan on seeing someone else but am so close to just giving up. I can't even work anymore! I have a part time job so I have something but even that's hard

Hi - you poor thing sad. There must be something wrong for it to need to be drained which sounds pretty awful in its self. Is that for fluid build up ?

I hope someone has a solution for you.

Yes for fluid and they usually get about 3/4 of a cup! But thank you

Have you tried regular massage to help the area to learn to drain again ? I  know a massage therapist who specialises in lymphatic drainage for post op cancer patients. It may be something that will give some relief.
