In the UK, doctors treat hyperthyroidism with a method called Block and Replace where they give high doses of Carbimazole to block your thyroid hormones and then replace it with Levothyroxine.  They do not use this method much in the States and Canada.  Perhaps those on this Board who have had this treatment can comment on how they feel about it.

I was on block and replace and my TSH levels slowly raised and now I feel well.

I was originally on block (40mg carbimazole) to reduce my t3 t4 and then I went hypo so was put on 100mg of levothyroxine to balance it out - had this for 18 months to bring my levels back to normal. That is the minimum treatment they recommend in my case as I had graves disease.
