Sinus infection

Do viral or bacterial infections make your fibro symptoms worse? I have been sick for 2 weeks and my limb pain and fatigue are worse. Any insights?

thanks, MicheleMichele

Hi Michele, I think the opposite applies. Having fibromyalgia exacerbates infections and you can't shake them off as easily. I dread winters! I suffer 2 to 3 heavy colds and lingering sinusitis and sore throats. Viral infections cause limbs to ache anyway, and all this on top of the underlying fibro.

    Hi Michele

i get many sinusitus and throat infections throughout the year and the only way I can clear them are with a course of antibiotics. When I get these infections I can guarantee a flare up with it. I usually end up in bed for days or weeks as my joints are so painful and my sinus infections also activate my migraines I become very weak. The pattern never changes. I hope you get over your infection soon x

i use silver and saline nasel spray and throat spray to heal my sinus and throat problems . i think you might find that its the antibiotics that work on your imune system which is al ready under pressure. wheres as the silver and saline work at point of contact with out effecting your imune system .

I had a really bad sinus infection about 11 years ago now, I was on 3 lots of antibiotics, ( it was almost like I didn't have have Fibro..but if course I did) my concentration was on the issue at hand.but(tiwas-Tina calls it brain training-unreal) .I had a huge flare up after but....I ended up with vertigo/inbalance since then...24/7 the Nuero did tests and said..the fluid in my middle ear crystallised..will correct itself in time....still impatiently waiting..lol....really thought I had a brain tumour..worried myself sick..not that it would have change anything at all..truly speaking since I've had this issue..the FMS doesn't command my every minute like it used to...  ..but I do get horrid flare ups but I can handle them..with the knowledge that it will subside eventually..be blessed:-) xx

    Hello

I am brand new here. I do not have a diagnosis of fibromyalgia - i havent even looked for a diagnosis but i know in my heart that i do have it and have had it for many years.......

Your question is one that really interests me.........i have been thinking over the past few days.....why do all my aches and pains get worse when i have a virus or something.....which they always, always do......

I have a couple of theories.......one is that when we have an infection our body is off fighting this rather than dealing with all the everyday chronic problems and pain that we have so they get worse and whilst googling a doctor said that our white blood cells work to heal our muscles every day but when we have a virus or something similar - infection, the white blood cells have gone off to deal with that rather than, amongst other things, heal our muscles..........which is more or less what my theory was...........and if you consider that fibro is so much about muscle pain it makes perfect sense that it would get worse....also being unwell is a stress on our body which isnt good for fibro etc.........in fact, when i get ill, even my joints hurt and all my old joing injuries flare up......so i was really pleased that i saw your post. (not happy for you obviously that you are unwell and i hope that you feel better soon.....sinus infections are horrible and really drag you down).

My main reason for joining was to ask the forum whether you think that i do have fibro....i know that you cannot diagnose but whether you think my symptoms sound like fibro..........if i did bother with trying to get a diagnosis it would just be to finally have a name for and understand why i feel so tired and as though i have been run over by a truck most of the time.........i will post it separately as this is you thread......

I do wish you better.......i think it is absolutely natural for chronic conditions to flare up when you arent well.......feel better soon.

Agree, We'll done you, I a bit of a researcher too..I've had Fibro and Sojorens Sydrome now for over 22 years...diagnosed that is probably longer....other issues too, but we are talking about Fibro....I get flare  ups too and my whole body feels like it's been hit by a mac truck(Australian lingo..maybe different where you are) iand of course there the awful times...Because I have a few autoimmune issues I am very suseptabke  to catching anything that goes around because I have low immunity....and yes!! It always seems much worse then.,,I use heaps of hot water bottles for pain..cold packs for swollen joints, I have an infrared sauna at home..awesome..use the local resorts indoor heated pool for excersing..slow walking etc...anyway to get a correct diagnoses you sometimes need to take your health in your own hands-own it, and then see your local Hiya precious, armed with knowledge both for the and you!!! But a Rhumotologist referral is amazing, they diagnose you very quickly ...hooe all gies well for you really soon..:-) xx

      Hello Christine

Sorry that you have sjogrens and fibro. I hope that things arent too bad for you at the moment.

The fact that I have mild sjogrens makes me think more so that I probably do have fibro.......to be honest I just cannot be bothered nor want to sit in front of doctors justifying myself etc.......appointments and all that stuff but when i next go to my GP for my 6 monthly review of medications that i take for my bp - i get called in and have to go - i will mention all of this..........

Take care of your self........best wishes

Thank you to aching all over. It took ten years to finally get a fibro diagnosis. My doctor treated each symptom seperately. It would seem that with all the computer use in the doctors office that somehow bells would go off when so many symptoms are present. I am slowly getting better. I took matter into my own hands and do a daily does of raw apple cider, honey and lemon juice all added to hot water. It helps head colds and sinus a great deal.

      Hello Michele

Ten years to diagnose fibro is a bit outrageous isnt it. When you think what doctors get paid etc......ten years!! I am glad that you have finally been diagnosed......even if its just so that you know what you are dealing with and can even go down the alternative route if you want to...

Your little concoction for your sinuses sounds good - it almost sounds as though it would be good for gerd and reflux too........i suffer from chronic sinus problems and it is miserable.....(have you ever tried coconut oil pulling - it sounds a bit bonkers but it seems to ahve helped my sinuses and i dont get so many colds and things - you could google it).

Hope you feel better soon........take care - best wishes

Well done you...wow!! Ten years is such a long time, it's great that you have taken your health into your own hands...just great..no-one really cares like you do...I was just thinking about your recurring sinus problem..wow!! an awful lot of us,.me including, have that issue..wonder if it's connected to. Fibro..mm...yes with all those computers and the trimmings in doctors surgeries you would think they would be on the ball alright..but I was always researching on my own computer all those differing Symtoms....you would just think that a dr, would be doing the same..they do get paid well....they all need to be more knowledgeable on autoimmune issues for sure..have a great dat michele..be blessed.rolleyes) xx

Hi Christine and Michelle, it seems to fall more under CFS/me. I found the following :-

Beside extreme fatigue, symptoms of CFS include general pain, mental fogginess, flu-like symptoms, and gastrointestinal problems. Other symptoms include:

      Headache

Frequent infections, such as sinus or respiratory infections, swollen glands, bladder infection or yeast infections

      Muscle and joint aches

Inability to concentrate or "brain fog"

      Allergies to foods and medications

      Anxiety and depression

      Decreased sex drive

from reviewing further websites however, it seems to bee a crossover symptom so can be present in fibro/CFS/me. I get about 6 infections a year which leads to post nasal drip and I cough up nasty gluts of mucous. It just seems like we have the ability to suffer from nearly everything lol x

Yes Christine and even worse, a lot of them are menopausal and hormonal symptoms. Far more research is required into all of these conditions if you ask me - at least we haven't been diagnosed yet as totally insane eh. Hope you have a good day hun xx

Totally agree, I went through menapause quite early..the same time I was dealing with the onset of Fibro etc...awful...just don't know what's symptom is from what..have a lovely day Gizmo..be blessed..:-) xxx

Yes being diagnosed was quite a celebration for me in the end..at least it was acknowledged as being a real disease..then I could start on a way of dealing with it..xxx
