social drinks after surgery

OK, this may not be the most important issue, but it is causing me not to socialise.

I had bypass surgery around 15 weeks ago, all is going well, but If colleagues or friends want to go to the pub what can I drink?  I'm not wanting wine, fruit juice is probably too sweet, fizz is out, I wasn't much into fizz anyway.  But what do other people have when they're out?

Thank you

K

I have a gastric band and will like to know what's best for me to drink on a night out. I know MODERATION is the key.

you wont have the same issues as an RNYer as you will not dump - the only thing you need to avoid is fizzy drinks but otherwise you are ok with wine, spirits, J2o etc. you would probs be better to start a separate thread so your replies dont get mixed up with the RNYer though cos the criteria is entirely diff

HI KATE - many people are advised to wait a year after surgery before trying alcohol but you must do whatever your bariatric team have advised in this respect - I believe it is possible to get realy drunk on very little alcohol after RNY surgery but I am a bandster so am not speaking from personal experience. I think most people have some trial runs at home first cos they dont want to get absolutely legless on a small amount of booze if they are out and possibly become ill too - like you say sweet stuff is out cos it could  make you dump and fizz is no good either - incidentally, you can knock the  fizz out of drinks with ice cubes and stirring but whatever your tipple you are def best to try it out at first at home and then if you do have any adverse effects at least you are at home and not in a public place. you might be best with a cuppa tea or water for the time being but good luck.

I am banded and not bypassed but did find that I did get very merry on a small amount of alcohol to start with. I now can enjoy most alcoholic drinks in moderation. I mix malibu and milk togther when I want easy on the delivery to the tum and no helicopters !!   Dont forget your alcohol is packed with callories and will derail your weight loss so maybe try st clements with ice (pure orange juice and bitter lemon together) Its not so sweet and the orange takes the fizz edge off the bitter lemon . Whatever ...have a good night out. S

it is the sugar content you will need to watch so even fruit juices could be a no no for you os if you drink several you could overload your system and dump which is to be avoid if you are out n about  - good luck
