Soles of feet burning 3 months after Rtc total knee replacement

My knee was burning @ was told that was bc they cut nerves during surgery.  Then that burning moved to the bottom of my feet? They prescribed Neurotin but I read all the side effects so decided not to take it. I just take one 5mg Percocet at bedtime & ice it & elevate. Anyone else having this pain? I saw a foot specialist & he thinks it didn't come from my surgery & should disappear in 3-4 months. We'll see?

I've had some after every time I've had to rehad the leg. A couple of times it went away and came back for a short time. If you read up on nerve damage you will find nerves are the slowest healing part of the entire process. Every once in awhile you'll get a feeling like a lightening strike. That's the nerves triggering activity as they reconnect. I'm five months out this time and I can tell the nerves are about mended but that every once in awhile still is a jolt. Lyrics is another drug that works but insurance companies and health plans don't like it because of the expense. Neurontin or gabepntin are drugs that a few people have problems with and when they have problems they are pretty severe. Personally I have know a lot of people that have taken them and never had any side effects but its a personal decision. I took lyrics for about 6 months after my 1st tkr and finally felt like I didn't need them anymore.

This is a surgery that definitely teaches patience. Most people think that the harder you push it the faster it will heal when in reality it takes that perfect blend of work, rest and time. The body dictates, all we have to do is slow down and listen. Due to a rare tumor I've had 11 surgeries on this leg plus 30 rounds of radiation. You realize after awhile that healing is taking place but its not gauged by looking at the calender. Good luck

I'm 13 months post TKR and still the biggest problem is the nerve damage. Still numb from mid knee to low on the shin and those irritating stabbing pains like needles. I suppose they will go away one day.

I also have some swelling in my thigh. And the outside of my knee gets very painful. I walk a lot and ride a bike but I guess it's just time. And a different time scale for each of us!

Hi Pat . .well, exactly the same thing happened to me.  My neurologist also said it had nothing to do with the operation, but honestly I don't believe him.  It started a couple of days after the operation. It's now been diagnosed as polyneuritis, or in other words, inflammation of various nerves.  I'm almost certain it's a side effect of the spinal injection, and the terrible nerve pain in my thigh, I think was caused by the tourniquet.  It seems too much of a coincidence that it should appear just after the op.  Regarding Neurontin, it had terrible side effects on me. . basically it turned me into someone quite different. . totally hyper talking all the time, mixing up words etc.  So I now take Lyrica, which is a lot more expensive, so they don't prescribe it until necessary!!!  No side effects  for me (everyobe is different!!!) except that for once in my life I sleep all night, and don't wake up like a zombie, and don't even have to get up to go to the loo, which I did before.  I am now nearly a year post TKR, and the burning continues, and so does the thigh pain.  the knee is great though!!!

Hi Pat, I also had severe knee burning after total knee replacement. I did take Neurontin for a couple months and it stopped. I didn't have any problems with the Neurontin. My pain was to severe not to take it. Hope this helps
