Switching meds because of weight gain

Has anyone gained weight on sertraline and then lost it with venlafaxine? I'm switching because sertraline has made me huge and I want to lose weight. I take both for social anxiety

    Sorry Amy,

    My experience is that I have put on weight with Venlafaxine and the side effects have been horrid.

    But I may well be an oddball in the mix!!!

    Hi Amy,

    I found that I lost half a stone with venlafaxine but it did make me feel queasy for quite a while before getting used to it. Also, I had been on clomipramine a tricyclic antidepressant before that which tended to cause weight gain. I also suffer from social anxiety as well as depression, i think the anxiety causes the depression because it prevents me from doing some things although I have tried very hard and am still trying to push myself.  Good Luck.

    I lost weight initially with Venlafaxine...but increased blood pressure, which concerned dr.s as their blood pressure machine couldnt read mine, it was off the charts. I did gain the weight back again I had lost initially. I find I am losing more now not being on the prescription, perhaps because my anxiety has gone up a little and I dont want to eat.
