Swollen lymph nodes. Biopsy scheduled. Opinions?

Posted , 7 users are following.

I know it's hard to say without knowing me, my medical history and without having all the facts in front of you, but here's everything I know. I'm just looking for a medical opinion. Doctors tests have already been done and more are scheduled.

I'm a 30 year old female.

No prior health conditions.

No drugs

No medications

Non smoker

Occasional drinker

No known family history with cancer or other medical issues (not until very late in life, basically)

No Other symptoms. No colds, sore throats, headaches, ear aches or fatigue.

Lymph nodes on the right side of my neck has been swollen since February.

It started with one lymph node. Went to my doctor, they said because it wasn't hard it was fine but if it didn't go away to come back in a month.

Several months later I went back. Now it is all lymph nodes on the right side of my neck, down to my collarbone at least.

I went and got blood work, followed by an ultrasound.

The ultrasound was a weird experience:

The tech was taking pics, and said "ummmm... I'm going to go get the doctor."

Doctor comes in, looks at the pics, takes more, and insists I make a follow-up with my doctor right away. I mentioned my doctor wanted to schedule a biopsy, and she said "Good, definitely do that! I'm going to send these over to your doctor right now, make sure you call on Monday and make an appointment!"

Fast forward:

I called that Monday and made an appointment for September 7.

A few days ago I got a call from my doctor saying "I know you have an appointment scheduled for the 7th but we looked at your ultrasound images and think you need to go in for a biopsy" and they directed me to their oncology department to make an appointment with them.

My appointment is on Thursday but I kind of wanted an opinion as to what this sounds like?

I know it's not a medical diagnosis and will not take the place of treatment. Just looking for opinions. Thanks.

Also would like to point out that the lymph nodes change in size. Some days they're huge and almost protruding, other days I can barely feel them.

I'm happy that they are getting to the bottom of this for you and hopefully everything turns out good.  It sounds a little scary.  I also have swollen lymph nodes that wax and wane down the left side of my neck.  I have had them for 2 years now.  I found out that they are caused by my Hashimoto's that caused my hypothyroidism.  Hashimoto's is an autoimmune disease in which your body attacks your thyroid gland and destroys it.  So, that may be a possibility.  I'm sorry I don't have anymore advice or suggestions to give.  I'm someone else will come along.  Hang in there.. stay strong and try not to worry too much.  The possibilities are endless.  Best wishes...

I also have Hashimoto's and I have 2 swollen lymph nodes right under my jaw on the left. I wonder if it could be related? I've seen several (10 or so) docs for the lymph nodes and they never seem concerned but I'm terrified.

    Hello..

I can say waiting is one of the worse parts of this as well as assuming the worse. I am going through similar things and doctors causing more suspense because of their reactions to the ultrasound and size of the lymph nodes. Autoimmune diseases can definitely cause them as well as cancer.. I am going to say stay positive as much as possible so worry doesn't take over. I have sleepless nights wondering about what if. But that's not solving anything for me. I had a biopsy done last week. Results won't be back for 10-14 days. If those are negative the search continues. My blood work somethings alarming somethings normal. I also have Avascular Necrosis and nobody knows why. I have had to hip surgeries as well. So I think what I'm going to do is focus on things I have control of and the things I don't I will pray God reveals answers and solutions. I hope something out of all off his helps..
