Third retinal vein occlusion

I've just got back from the optician's, where I saw a beautifully blotchy left retina, confirming as I suspected, I have just had my third retinal vein occlusion.  I can now look forward to those delightful appointments at the eye clinic! Has anyone else had more than one? I had my first one about 30 years ago, and the previous one 5years ago. Does anyone have any suggestions for preventing any more?  Would love to hear from anyone else going through it!

    Hi Alison,  just wondering if there is a link to high blood pressure as I think got my occulsion when I wasn't on any medication for it. I'm now back on it. Has this ever been mentioned to you?

      Good morning Julie,  the first one was blamed on the Pill - it was in the days when women were dying with thrombosis so I counted myself very lucky!  Last time, after exhaustive tests, the consultant told me that if I chose to live a stressful life... I do remember a very stressful day, when I finally decided not to do supply teaching for 13yr olds any more! Bet my blood pressure was up then! I've asked for a cholesterol blood test and I will start checking my blood pressure again and will certainly mention this when I go to the eye clinic.  Thanks.

      Hi Julie think you may be on to something! Apparently, after 4hrs in A&E and the eye clinic, and another hour waiting to see a GP, my blood pressure was rather high - can't think why!  They've started me on a low dose of Lisinopril, with instructions that if I get any further symptoms, I'm to go straight to the emergency GP, where they'll probably tell me to up the dose.  I'm now supposed to be having a calm, stress free weekend!

    Hi Alison, i had high blood pressure resently (sunday) and a while after that started feeling a little pressure in my left eye? i dont know if its a vein occlusion. How did you get yours the first time...did you have this eye pressure feeling too?

      Hi, the first thing I've ever noticed is patches of loss of vision. In both occlusions in my left eye, it's as if I am looking through frosted glass.  If I look at something with solid black lines, I can see the blind spots. In my right eye, I could see the little blood vessels in the retina when I looked at a white wall. This time, I can see grey patches. The only sensation I feel is a pressure on the eye as if I'm wearing glasses with too strong a prescription but the overall effect is like when I wore contacts and had to leave one out. Hope this helps.

    I've only ever had 1 and fortunately it's improving after a year. Have they put you on any medication?

    I hope by now you have had some good suggestions.  For myself controlling blood pressure is a a major factor.  I have diabetics and this sort of thing comes with the territory.  I go to the specialist tomorrow.  Hope this helps.
