Sometimes this does happen because the muscles clamp the oesophagus at too tight a pressure for the endoscopy tube to go down.   Sometimes medication like nitrates can make a difference for an hour or so.   Sometimes the manometry tube can be put in place under sedation.   A specialist centre with experience of achalsia should be able to manage the best treatment for you.

Try and relax so that you can get nutrition through the normal process, if you possibly can, because your fear does make the tension worse.   But I know this is easier said than done.

    Hi !!

I am so sorry to hear you are going though such a hard time with this. I was on the drips many years ago when they didn't know what this throat restriction was. I had a balloon on the end of a pipe inserted in my throat and they dilated it. This lasted awhile. then they did a major surgery in 1975 ,that lasted  until 2010 or 11. There are procedures they can do to widen the throat area. Have they tried any of the procedures? They are thinking of having a stent placed in my esophagus to hold it open for some time ,then remove to see if it stays on its on. I pray they find you some help. I know how frightened you are. This is a scary situation. As I hear more I will post. Good luck and please keep me imformed !! Gwen
