I'm sorry Craig😩. What medications are you on? How long has this been going on?

I've had peripheral neuropathy for 15 years. When I.was first diagnosed Cymbalta worked really good. Unfortunately I had to more powerful drugs and they only just barely help.

The best thing I can tell you is to get a "good" neurologist. They will want to run a lot of tests but if they can figure out where it started it will be worth it.

    Take care brother. God bless.

I have your symptoms. Mine  started in my right buttock then progressed down my thigh and leg.  The pain is acute and I cannot walk outside due to my leg suddenly giving way.  I have had my pain over a year.  It gradually went down one side of my body.  I can walk a few steps indoors using a walking stick but going outside I have to use a wheelchair which my husband pushes me around!

Referring to your medication, I think I have been on most drugs.  Gabapentin did nothing for my pain, nor did all the others which I can't remember all of them!  I am now on morphine patches and oramorph which is a liquid morphine.

I am awaiting a date for an operation which is called a discectomy.  (I think that's what it's called).  Unfortunately this op has been postponed twice already.  One of the causes of the delay for my op was because they found a blood clot in my lung just before my op!  This meant I was put on Warfarin and I was told I had to be on Warfarin for 6 months prior to an op.

i have been counting the months and days and my 6 months ends in December!  So hopefully I will have my op in January 2017.

Sorry, I forgot to mention, the cause of my pain is due to a prolapsed disc(bulge) pressing on the nerve roots!

Sounds like you have the same which might get worse like mine!  Sorry!

I think you you should ask your GP to refer you to the Orthopaedic Dept.  They are the ones who diagnosed my problem.

Good luck and best wishes to you.

If there is no sign of a disc causing nerve compression - it could be spasmed muscles doing the same thing. Myofascial pain syndrome and piriformis syndromewill both cause sciatic-type pain and won't show up on an x-ray. Orthopaedic specialists don't always recognise it - as I found!

The doctor in the Pain Clinic eventually identified it but good massage therapists or sports physiotherapists will too - and are probably easier to get to see.

It does sound like neuropathy, actually, a very common symptom. I'm surprised they said it was psychological. But then again I was told my asthma was psychological. I'm on nortriptyline for this as well as pain meds. I've recently been given Gabapentin, no relief yet. Can you get second opinion?

It's a very easy option for them to say it psychological and lazy
