Hi all

I went to the dentist and he said I have burning mouth syndrome and jaw problems . I have got jaw exercises to do then I have to have a brace type thing for night times.

My symptoms are :

Buzzing gums

Aching face and jaw

Stiff to chew

Ears ringing

Throbbing feeling in jaw

Pressure headaches at temples (this is so tight)

Heavy head

If there's no improvement after splint what will they do.

Seeing an oral specialist soon.

Hi Michelle sorry to hear of your problems, I have all the same things going on and gum deseise my teeth are moving and this is causing loads of probs the buzzing in my ears is bad and I have sinus probs and a very dry mouth had all this for 9mths driving me mad. I have seen a doc at hospital and he gave me exercises to do but that's all. Hope you get more response from your appt, it's supposed to be more prolific in females makes me wonder if it's hormonal. Hi Michelle

Have had recent diagnosis of both advanced gum disease (am having scaling and root planing begun in a couple of weeks likely to be followed at some stage by surgery) and also burning mouth syndrome.  BMS can be hormonal and stress related but also has basis in vitamin deficiencies (B12 etc) and also thyroid issues.  If you have been told you have BMS you should see your gp asap - quicker than waiting for oral medicine depts - not all parts of the UK have a fully staffed oral medicine facility. I saw my gp today who is doing blood screening to rule in/out physiological causes.  If there are none, then likely stress/anxiety is root cause.  I am menopausal and that is the most common group to suffer.  GP gave me some prescription strength co-codamol which are taking the edge off the pain tonight.  Please consult your gp as a starting point for some immediate help and advice.

    Good luck and keep posting.

Thankyou. I made an appointment with my dentist last week and explained it to him and he has referred me to a specialist in oral department of local hospital. I am just waiting for my appointment. He said they will do blood tests.

Regarding my jaw the dentist said my teeth and gums are healthy but my jaw and face aches especially at the end of the day.

      Hi Maureen

Went to the maxofacial specialist today and he said I have BMS. He gave me difflam to gargle and wants to take a biopsy. I had bloods taken as well. Perhaps I am getting there x

I get noisy pulsitile tinnitus it is maddening. I use a mouth splint at night too. Every here and there i get these crazy flare ups. I had taken a few naps last week with no splint in my mouth and must have clenched away. I have tried hypnosis galore im asleep and have to find something to make this clenching just stop. I hate the effects it has on the ears so much. It inflammes the musles and they press on the eustatian tube. 😰
