Total elbow replacement

Hi all,

I have had a partial right elbow replacement two years ago, but have always had continous bad aching.

i just had two operations to ease the pain ( possible trapped nerves), but they have not made any difference.

I play the guitar and wonder if this would still be possible if I have a full replacement.I would be most grateful for any advice or comments.

    Greeting from Dallas Texas. Had one 3 years ago and still have aches and numbness in 2 lower fingers. I feel crippled as I can't do so many things. However I am thankful that I have a working arm and am not as bad off as several on this site.

    HI, I am flying to Duke University in N.C. From Florida to have a consultation with elbow specialists there. I will probably need a total elbow and want to go where they specialize in this. It's not very common. I have had arthroplasty before and after 15 years I wore it out and now have to face a possible total elbow. I am a wreck about it.

    evwn though I had the first surgery, my pain was almost constant. Clearly there was a lot more damage than the smaller surgery could correct. I am hoping for answers and a good outcome. 

    the pain now is about a 7-8 everyday. Between my long standing RA and this I'm a mess! If there is any other spot in your elbow with  arthritis you WILL

    Sorry, cut myself off. Anyway! I play the guitar and I am an pet portrait artist. I need to be able to do those things post surgery. I am so limited now I think I'll be better off after. My right arm is almost at a 90 degree angle at this point and I can still paint and play although quite painfully.

      It appears that the patients that do their research on surgeons have better results. My replacement was a result of a fall and was treated as a trauma, almost emergency situation, thus what I feel was a hack job. Good luck on what seems to be a 50-50 chance. If your elbow is stuck you really have no choice and I encourage you to have it done.

      Thank you I'm a wreck about it but I can't live in this much pain all the time.

      i am seeing pain specialists etc. not much help.

      i hope yours feels better soon. Duke U is a teaching hospital and their orthopedic team is supposed to be excellent. The fact that they have elbow specialists makes me feel a bit better.
