My stomach got much flatter by 3 months, but I was more concerned with how I felt, which is still lousy. I'm having a hysterectomy on Thursday, seven months after the UFE.

Hi if you don't mind me asking, why are you getting a hysterectomy despite UFE, did it not work?

As I mentioned, I still feel horrible. My largest fibroid shrank 70%, but it is still pressing in my bladder, which is why I feel like I need to wee every second of the day. The specialist I saw said it could be causing permanent damage to my bladder. I am having the hysterectomy laparoscopically, which I couldn't have done before UFE because my fibroids were so large. A lot of women who have UFE go on to have a hysterectomy - I think it's one-third of women do this. I just want the fibroids gone for good.

Hi Mumaloo
Yes I remember you said that the Fibroid was still causing problems with the bladder. Sorry to hear that it didn't resolve the bladder issue. And I hope your op goes well.
I'm still against Hyserectomy and it would not get rid of my big belly anyway so no point for me. Are your periods not any better? Hope so then at least you got something out of UFE

I think the stomach takes a while to reduce depending on the size of fibroids. But the most important thing is for the heavy flow of blood to stop. Because that really affects the quality of health / life. How is your period / bleeding? Has it come back to normal? Am 9 weeks post ufe, my period is getting better even though it still last for 7-8 days but lighter than what it was.

Hi Ruth. Yes my period is much better now I have 2 heavy days and about 5 light days. So it could be better but still it's a massive improvement. Before I was flooding for 5 days. The reason that I was worried about my stomach is that the Radiologist said 6 months and only seen a slight improvement but also the fibroid has caused a hernia on my belly button and I'm worried that the hernia is the reason that the tummy has not gone down. I read somewhere that if a Hernia cause a big belly then the only thing they can do is tummy tuck which is not offered on the NHS. So I was looking if anyone else has waited longer than 6 months for their tummy to go down after UAE. Thanks for your reply though and hope your doing well and the periods will get better it took 5 months with mine.
