vertigo and dizziness attacks?

Hiya. I've been suffering with vertigo and dizziness attacks for the last 6 months. Symptoms typically include vertigo or dizziness, eyes go completely crossed, I get a numbness down the right side of my face and my mouth, I get pressure in my head just above my ears and occasional nausea. The attacks wipe me out for the next 24 hours. In between attacks I have slight dizziness and sensitive or blocked ears. Other days I'm completely symptom free!?

I was initially diagnosed with Labyrinthitis, then the doc thought it was meniers. I've had an initial ENT appt and he doesn't think it's meniers. I'm now waiting for a vestibular balance test appt at the hospital and an MRI.

I've been told I've just got to put up with it for the moment but it's causing mayhem with my work life. In the last 7 weeks I've not been able to work a full week.

Anyone else having similar issues???

It's so annoying. I was given tablets for Labyrinthitis, then tablets for meniers... Now nothing? I have no idea how long it will take for the appts to come through. Fortunately my work are being EXTREMELY understanding!

Urgent care is faster white blood cell count and allergy test may help and ear X-ray and ctscan are better than MRI u still can get one just in case but nothing showed in my MRI and I know I'm not a cuckoo bird lol

Hi kaz, join our club,I've been off work with severe dizziness for 6 weeks as can't work, having to lay down most the time,I've been told its silent migraines, meniers then labyrinthitis they don't know,I've experienced the cross eye sensation twice only but eyes are slow and feel odd,my ears feel blocked but sadly I don't have a break I have it 24/7 ,I hope you get some answers soon,I have my MRI Sunday, lisa

Oh poor you! I was told that Labyrinthitis is 24/7 for up to 3months in some cases. I don't have symptoms every day. I

get attacks sporadically which is a nightmare as never know when it's going to happen. I get crossed eyes every time. I hope they find out what it is Lisa x

Kaz I am just coming out of mine after 5 months and had my first day's work! It took time and was diagnosed with BPPV and vestibular migraines! Demand to see a specialist in Vertigo  systems - blow off anyone else as they know jack ! Waste of months and precious money ! Get the doctor to actually do some up to date research for a doctor that deals with it not someone that's guessing!

Thanks Donna. Do you get symptoms every day or are they sporadic? I dont get actual migraines but an aware you can get MAV or BPPV without the actual migraine pain? My attacks are random. Every few days normally. I may get other symptoms in between but other days I feel fine. It's bizarre!? my best being 4 good days in a row with no symptoms in the last 6 months x

Yeah Kaz at first they were pretty bad and anxiety kicked in - the headaches were there but not so called migraines but like a vice on my head - the vertigo was managed if I walked like a robot and didn't do any unusual fast movements - my BPPV was sorted after finding a doctor who sent me to Sydney to have the Omniac Chair (finally) but I do also have MAV so I just now need to deal with the headaches - my GP refused to commit that I had both but my Sydney specialst has written to him and has asked him to treat me for MAV as well! A lot of struggle ! Yep I felt maybe I was coming out of it to slap me down again! Need a balance clinic doctor that solely deals with vestibular issues - not all so called specialst are experts , you can see an ENT and he still wouldn't know same as an neurologist ! See an expert on vestibular balance ! Good luck

I'm waiting for results on a neck X-ray to rule out a neck injury.. Also being tested for Lyme diease.. I have your symptoms, maybe worth looking into.

Hi Lisa all these symptoms can be caused from a neck injury so get it checked. Lyme disease is being bitten by a tick, however most people don't even know they've been biten and symptoms can take years to start and progressively get worse.. Main symptoms for Lyme are brain fog, head pressure, fatigue. Just another possibility that perhaps you could get checked for. I'm having this next if my neck is ok.

I feel your pain :-( I too was diagnosed with lybrithitus then sinusitis, loads of blood tests all clear and had my eyes tested 4 days ago which are all fine. I guess it's just a process of elimation, just keep on at your GP. I'm only 34 and feel like I'm 94 most days..  I'm currently on high doses of ibruofen and feel better than I have in a long time.. Although the dizziness is slowly returning and I worry it's just masking the real cause. Xray results next week, I'll let you know. Go get an xray :-) x

      Oh bless you x

Yes I feel like an OAP at the moment! I've not been out properly in weeks and managed 1.5 days at work in the last 2 weeks. I'm getting more concerned about not being at work than anything else at the moment. My attacks happen randomly sometimes with no warning or obvious trigger. I have odd days when I feel totally fine, other days I feel rubbish. Just really fed up. X

This is exactly the same as me.. Some days fine others I feel detached from the world, spaced out etc.. No obvious triggers either it's so frustrating. Then I went to spa and had a back massage, two days later I was crying on my GP thinking my head was going to explode on her desk! I kid you not. Which makes us think it's my neck causing it. So glad I'm not alone and try some ibrofen (anti inflammatorys) cause they have helped me loads. Good luck And take care of yourself. I'll keep you posted of my findings X

Do your eyes go completely crossed? Mine just randomly go crossed just as I start to get a dizzy or vertigo attack. My head gets heavy and I feel pressure by my temples. Then I go numb down the right side of my face and mouth. I can't focus at all for at least ten mins. Then gradually my eyes sort themselves out. It's bizarre!! I'm left with dizziness and a general groggy/ hungover head for the next 24-48 hours.

I have six year old twins and feel like the worse mum ever... So when I have a "good" day I try and do as much as I can with them. Seriously ask to be tested for Lyme and get your neck checked out.  my eyes go weird but my eye test was perfect, strange which ruled out a brain tumour thank god, you can't help but think the worst.  Even having teeth problems can damage nerves in your neck and anything neck related can cause these symptoms.. I just so happen to have had a tooth removed 4 years ago that didn't go well.. maybe it's all down to this. Don't let them fob you off with anxitey or stress  either ladies.

A few times my eyes have gone completely crossed like there stuck then the dizziness came on bad,I was shopping with a friend in Brighton town 3 months ago and in the mall I went to turn into a shop door and had it,I was scared as that was the first time I experienced it I then went home as I got really dizzy, usually its my right eye that feels like a crossed sensation but I have severe dizziness when I get it,had my eyes looked at and nothing wrong with them except a stigmatism, which is a different shaped pupil which is not the cause xlisa

I know how you feel,I feel really bad when I can't do anything with my girls,my oldest will cuddle up and watch a film with me where my youngest wants to be amused all the time,we did some drawing and art earlier she was so happy I played with her, feel exhausted now as dizziness was bad today but I try hard to do something with the kids everyday.I had teeth out about 6 years ago, wisdom ones,I was wondering as I have a wisdom tooth at bottom right that niggles on and off but dentist x ray it and said it was OK,might mention it again when I see him next month.my doctor said my eye problem was stress and turned out at the time I had really dry eyes so used fake tears and it helped, I hope you have help with your twins?my mum helps me a lot xlisa
