Weight loss and flu

I've just started fluoxetine 20mg after being on 150mg Sertraline. Has anyone experienced weight loss and if so how long did it take?

Thanks in advance smile

Hi Beck, are you hoping to lose weight then?  Re Fluoxetine, I've heard various reports (on this site).  Speaking for myself, I used to do the two-day fast, ie the 2/5 diet, when I'd restrict my calories to around 4 or 500 calories a day.  However, when I started Flu about four months ago, I felt so light-headed and fuzzy, I didn't dare continue my fasting.  However! My weight hasn't changed despite this, so all is good - for me anyway. Hope this helps?  I don't find Flu (I'm on 20 mg) an appetite booster, if that makes sense? - I don't find myself eating any more than usual.

Hi Anne, yes I am hoping to lose about 30lbs. I gained weight when I went on the contraceptive implant but I think the Sertaline I was on madeit hard to lose the weight. I did try the 5:2 diet about 18 months ago and i lost 6lbs but put it back on and bacame a stress eater. I'm hoping being on different medicine and practicing mindfulness will help with my dieting. x

Hi Becks, you're sounding positive, which has to be good.  And it might help to chant "a minute on your lips, a life-time on your hips" etc. At work I sometimes peep into the biscuit tin in the kitchen; I might even sniff them (sad bitch), but then I look inside myself and ask myself "Am I hungry - really?" - to which the answer is usually a firm "No!" and I snap the lid back on.  I weigh less now than I did as a teen, so there's gotta be some benefits to this ageing malarky! And don't forget the magic of a cup of coffee - actually I think we often tend to mistake hunger pangs for thirst - something you probably noticed whilst on the 5:2 fast?
