Wife's Urethra Infection

Posted , 2 users are following.

My wife noticed severe pain when urinating last Saturday plus 'pinkish' tinge to the tissue.  Doctor on Monday prescribed 3 days of AB's and come back in 2 weeks with a sample.  The symptoms haven't gone away, she feels sick and has had more urges to 'poo' than normal and many urges to urinate urgently.  Close inspection revealed small white spot just inside urethra.

Hi  Your wife,s symptoms sound like bacterial cystitus, and sounds like 3 day course is a minimul one, which is something gps might do if theyre taking a sample same day so results will be back by time course is at an end, so cant understand why he,s told her to bring sample in two weeks later, sounds odd to me.  If she,s still same symptoms, in pain, frequency, now feeling sick, the infection sounds like its still there, does she have a temprature with it. she needs to see doc asap and tell him she,s still in pain, and take sample with you.  Couldnt say what the white spot is, but its not uncommon to get thrush with anti bs, Hope she gets help soon, as 2 wk too long to suffer if full course can clear it.

Thanks for reply, she has been sick several times today, mainly bile as she has hardly eaten.  Temperature is 39.2.

Will see doctor tomorrow with a sample.

It does sound like she,s a bad infection, and is suffering badly with it, 39.2 is high temp, l had simular a few week back, typical cystitus symptoms, frequency and pain in passing it, cloudy, felt ill with it, told gp and he gave me 200mg trimethoprin for 5days, but l had put a sample in 2 days later,  came back a few days after and was then put on l000mg kefalexin for 7days to get on top of it, Some go from one extreme to the other, according to trend, give out ab freely, even for virus,s, then when someone has typical bacterial symptoms, they cut back, due to present trend of reducing use of them, and as youll be seeing its a horrible condition to linger.   good luck

Good morning, wife still poorly, temperature 39.0 today and was sick again last night.  She has appointment later this morning, hopefully this doctor knows what he is doing.  We are taking a sample with us too.

She,s having a bad time, so hope the gp has given her something to improve it, even if a few days, as most anti bs take. best wishes to her

We saw a different doctor today and he has put her on Ciprofloxacin 500mg, the problem with these is they make you feel sick, she has already been sick so there is little point in taking them, she took one an hour ago lets see what happens, if she is sick then she will have to go to hospital.  The urine test revealed e.coli, all this started the day after a meal out, she had a rare steak, co-incidence??

my second course of anti bs were kefalexin 500 twice a day, from 200 trimeethop twice a day, so stronger doseage, luckily for me despite a bit of gastritus l could tolerate them and not sick,  but it really took the whole course of 7days to get on top of it. l,d gone about 5 days on an unaffective low dose, as it happened l was due to go into hospital for a cystascope, pr op check up, and took a sample with me, they confirmed it, then wouldnt do the g anasetic, as l was unwell, bit bronichal also.

l think mine might have been ecoli,  but it often comes from the bowel causing cystitus. l wasnt sick with it, but l guess that can happen if a bad infection, and it is over a week since she started with it, bacteria multiplies,   and they can take 2-3 days to improve things, so it will be difficult to know if its still bad cystitus  infection causing her to be sick or what you suspect.  She might improve a little overnight, youll see, good luck

      Hi Lynne, how are you?

We got a doctor to make a house call as the ABs were just making her feel so sick, he agreed to admit her to hospital for a more thorough checkover.  She is on an intravenous drip to avoid the sickness problem and so far they haven't found kidney or heart problems, she has been xrayed, was that looking for tumours, my guess is yes.  The doc who came to the house ruled out the recent meal of rare steak, too close.  The latest is that it is a 'peculiar' ecoli, and haven't identified it.

After this episode we are going back to 'wet-wipes', I don't care what the local authority say about blocking drains etc.  They always digging up the roads around here anyway, a few more won't hurt, what say you?

Hi, well at least theyve been thorough in the end, in gettin her into hospital for tests and intravenous drip, must have been a serious infection, l think it can take a while to id bacteria, theyve to grow a culture of something like that, and it can take a week or two,  and lve more faith in hospital than some gps, So has she got a leaving time, guessing she,s improved with hospital care. l,m still battling a bit with nausea, and asthma, feel l need to win the lottery and buy a villa in the sun and healthier air, dont we all.  lve seen worse go down drains outside, and there,s nothing like a severe infection to make you fear same happneing again, and going to lengths to make it sure it doesnt.

At least she,s in best place to get to bottom of it, scuse pun, always the plumbing dept with us women.  Hope she,s feeling better after having had a rough time for  a while,

Wifey has normal BP and temperature now, just need to get her re-hydrated, doc says she can come home tomorrow.  We don't know the strain yet.  I like your sense of humour and let me know when recovered.

Hello everyone. I am a 25 year old woman and I really need HELP on my case  since it is already causing my life a nightmare.! I'm pretty much running out of options that's why I decided to come to the internet and connect with people. I've been suffering from UTI's since back in 2011. I've been prescribed I don't know how many antibiotics.... Nothing has worked within 3 days my UTI would come back. Apparently... the E.coli have become resistant to antibiotics. My primary doctor sent me to an urologist to see if everything was ok. I'm currently on the wait for some ultrasounds I had done to see if I'm retaining urine. Meanwhile, I will appreciate if someone can give me some light on this and if some one had a similar problem because honestly all the doctors I've seen so far dont really know whats going on or  have little knowledge of this problem, I sort of sense their insecurity. Overall, my hopes are low.... The e.coli is also constantly causing vaginal infections as well... I believe my ph levels go unbalanced once the bacteria travels to the vagina causing bad odor and even yeast infections, vaginosis, etc. HORRIBLE. I even tried to get a plastic surgery recently and they will not operate with an existing infection. I've heard as well that long term infection can cause other problems...evern for future maternity. My first priority in my life right now is getting rid of this thing !! You help will be much appreciated. THANK YOU !!

Sounds very strange, that the drs would say youve ecoli thats not responding to anti biotics and then just leave it to go on, when its a serious bacteria to be left. l,d have thought it would be thought and treated as urgent, and they can get scan results quick if needed. Have they not suggested doing a cystoscopy to see if the bladder looks to have reason for uti,s. such as intersticial cystitus, you could also check out the c.o.b site forum for info advice on bladder probs, which they specialise in.  Candida often goes along with infections, more so if youve had lots of anti bs, but dont know what sort of plastic surgery your trying for, and its not good to have long term infection whether having surgery or not. There are things you can take to make you more alkaline, many use a little bicarb in water    to reduce acid. along with drinking lots of water. You should be able to ring urologists secretary to find out results of scans, and keep on at your gp to do more about the infection if its persistent. Maybe other posters will be able to advice if theyve had simular problems, good luck
