Withdrawal from amitryptaline

I have been on Amitryptaline for approximately 4 years at a dose of 35mg at night, for pain due to arthritis in my knee.  For some reason I decided to stop taking it a week or so back, as I hate taking tablets. All was ok for a couple of days and then I had the most awful headaches for a couple of days.  The headaches are tapering off now, but I feel dreadful. Nausea and general feeling crappy.  I can sleep at night but I keep sweating and getting terrible hot flushes during the day and night.  As I am 50, I thought at first it might be menopause, but after reading the symptoms, I am wondering if it is withdrawal.  I will persevere as I do not want to take tablets.  Is anyone else feeling terrible and if so, how long is this going to last for.  I also gained a lot of weight, and suddenly had a spare tyre, which I have never battled with in my life.  Despite doing Weight Watchers and exercising as much as I can, I was not shifting the weight.  As soon as I stopped taking Amitryptaline, I noticed my weight very slowly dropping!!
