Worried about lymphoma or leukaemia, help!

Hi,

So I've had symptoms since late last year, to cut a long story short, I've had 2 enlarged lymph glands in my neck for about 6 months and one small one in my stomach, stomach pains in that area (lower right/pelvis), an achy/swollen neck and tonsils, awful fatigue/lack of energy and motivation, a red itchy patch on my collar bone which keeps coming back even after using creams, itchy lower legs (inside leg), constipation troubles, lower legs keep going numb sometimes and just general aches!! I am so fed up, and just want to find out what is wrong. I had an ultrasound recently which is normal but they did do an internal (not sure why?) and then the next day received a letter with an mri scan (had one 6months ago which just found the lymph glands in my right lower stomach). I also had a blood test recently which had low iron levels and slightly raised white cells (think it was lymphocytes and eosinophils) but then the next was normal! Any advice would be helpful!! Should I be having any other tests? Should I be worried? Help!

My husband had lymphoma eight years ago . .virtually no symptoms beforehand, just showed up when the cardiologist did an ultrsound on the aorta.  Loss of weight, excessive sweating at night are markers for lymphoma . . which you don't mention!  Hope it turns out ot be something easily sorted, but they are taking their time about finding out what is causing your symptoms.

Aww hope he has recovered well! Can I ask what happened after they found something on the ultrasound? What were the next steps? I am worried after my ultrasound as they have requested an mri for next week already! No weight loss and no sweating, not that I've noticed any! It is taking so long, just want to know!

After the cardiologist noticed something n the ultrasound, he recommended a cat scan, which showed two large tumours (adenomas) in the abdomen. After further tests (bone marrow, PET scan) it was confirmed follicular lymphoma. . .then chemotherapy, rituximab (Mabthera) . that was eight years go. No recurrence so far!!!  I hope you soon get sorted out!

Hi JEss, looks like your doctor is trying to find out what is wrong. Although I'm sure he will soon get it sorted out, I wonder if it could be some medication you are on that is causing the rashes, stomach pain, etc. I've heard that cholesterol drugs can cause lots of problems. I myself had to stop taking them.Take a close look at any drugs you take, and see if they could be the problem. Hope you can figure it out.

      Hello Jess

I hope you are well? Did you ever find out what was wrong? I have had some similar symptoms to you and am getting frustrated at the lack of answers.

Hoping you are well and just getting on with life.

      M xx

Hello Jess, hope you have gotten some results back from your tests that at least gave you some information to go forward. The symptoms you mention are rather non-specific and could be lots of things, but ruling out Hodgkin's lymphoma should be on the list. A biopsy of the swollen neck nodes might be worth doing if not done yet - ask your medical team. The night sweats/weight loss/fevers that martinarvelo mentioned are often late/advanced signs in lymphomas, so their absence is reassuring.

    best to you!

Hi Jess and everyone else. Please please help if you can as im at my wits end. I dont understand the medical terminology and seem to " block " information when i obtain same via google and try to put it all together.  I just dont know what to do anymore.   I have been under the care of a really good specialist physician since last year July as my GP seemed to think i was suffering from depression or stress or flu or whatever.  Since Feb last year ive not been feeling well.  A lot of blood tests later i finally went for a ultrasound for the glands/noads in my neck, throat, etc, end Oct last year.  The results showed that the area we were concerned about in my neck turned out to be a chain of multiple small lymphnodes, the largest mearsuring 11x2.3mm.  they accordingly seemed to be normal.  i do, however, have pain on the exact place the nodes are and one can feel an almost " ball " on that particular spot.  The skin is also brownish like sun damage?  Two other nodes popped up which seemed to be larger than it should be (I have no idea how big nodes or glands are supposed to be).  These are described as " 2 prominent lymph nodes seen bilaterally in the submandibular region.  The node on the left measures 31.2x8.3x16mm and the 1 on the right 15x6.2x27mm.  There is mild increased vascular flow in both suggesting reactive nodes.  The tyroid is normal in size but there is a small 1.3x1.3mm simple cyst seen in the mid pole of the right lobe and another 3.2x1.7mm cyst in the superior pole of the left lobe of the thyroid". I only saw the specialist again last week as due to the many tests and GP visits at the beginning of last year our medical aid reached its limit after this test.  When i saw the specialist he did not even mention the ultrasound results.  Since last year November when i was last weighed ive lost 8kgs altthough ive been eating a chocolate every day and are having 4 teaspoons of sugar in my tea/coffee which i never did before.  Ive been ill twice, first time in November last year - the symptoms are flu like symptoms, very clogged head/face area, enormous sweating every half hour to hour, headache for 12 days, pain which moves from one shoulder to another, absolute exhaustion to the point that i just lie on the couch in my PJS,  wrist pain and the strangest thing - i went with my hubbie to our local grocery store wanting to buy bread.  Apart from feeling terrible i was normal yet when we entered the store i could not remember how to get to the isle where the bread is.  This i put off at that time as " hormones " BUT the same thing happened again this year.  On 1 January i was perfectly fine, had people over and the 2nd i woke up feeling absolutely terrible.  This time the headache lasted for 25 days.  The momentarily memory loss was there again.  It happens, last for an hour or 3 and then disappears.  I was, however, physically sick for 2 weeks and eventually got Trevelin which took the headach away after 25 days.

When i saw the specialist last week he did not even worry about that.  Ive had more blood tests done in the meantime and it indicates a slightly raised white cell count (10.93) ESR of 20, C Reactive Protein of 5, and a very slight change in my kidney function.  Apparently not worth worrying about?  In the meantime im sitting with chronic swollen glands, headache everyday, sore throat and can feel there is a definite sinus infection or something going on.  The weight loss also have not stopped (which is always welcome but only if im sure i am healthy while losing all this weight naturally?)

Is there anyone who can give me possibilities to investigate as i honestly dont know where to turn to anymore.

    Much appreciated, Noelas
