Yes, you should take a day of sick leave for this.   They will give you a good dose of a benzodiazepine, probably Midazolam, a medication that will relax you, but it is considered a psychoactive drug.   It can affect driving and decision making for the next 12-24 hours.   I was told that if I had the sedation, which I didn't, that I would need someone to drive me home and stay with me for the rest of the day and not make any major decisions.

My advice to you would depend on what type of work your job requires and if you would have the option to leave work if you felt the need to leave. I would ask my doctor to send you a copy of their post-colonoscopy recommendations. I think that these recommendations would tell you to not lift more than ten pounds for a period of time, and for you to avoid making major decisions. This decision business might affect the quality of your employment decisions.

Yes, you need to take the time off. They usually give you a hypnotic drug, which makes you relaxed; you are awake, but don't remember much about it. You are usually told not to sign any legal documents for 24 hours, or operate machinery and you need someone with you for 24 hours afterwards. I don't think it would be safe to go back to work after having this procedure.

Hope all goes well for you.
