Finding yourself a fitness buddy could be just what you need. Here’s a rundown of the benefits of working out with someone else by your side.

Encouragement

The last few minutes of an extreme workout can be the worst, but with your fitness buddy shouting a few words of encouragement, failure isn’t an option! Encourage each other to push further - a little support can go a long way.

No excuses

Getting to the gym can sometimes be the toughest part of the workout. Arrange to meet your friend there or share a lift, and it’ll help give you the motivation to stay on track. Making an excuse to someone else is much harder than making one for yourself.

Have fun

One of the best reasons to have a fitness buddy around is that you can put the fun back into exercising. Take a class together and have a laugh. The time will pass before you know it. Just make sure you don’t forget why you're there!

Be happy

People who exercise with others are generally happier, and find the experience more rewarding, research from the University of Southern California's Department of Preventive Medicine shows. A fitness buddy could give you a whole new outlook on your exercise routine!

Try new things

Nervous about trying that new class you’ve had your eye on? Bring along your buddy and try it out together. Encourage and support each in trying new things, you might be able to recommend a new workout to each other and pick up some tips.
