10 great running songs

Music affects us all differently, and we all have our own tastes. Before you start a new exercise routine or running plan make yourself a playlist of songs that will push you over the finish line. By compiling a list of running songs you can make sure that the music you’re listening to gets your heart rate up and keeps you motivated.

Worth the effort

It might take a little time but making up your own list of songs will definitely pay off in the end. If you get bored easily, music can be a way to keep you interested and motivated. If you run on a treadmill you may find you get bored a lot quicker which can slow down your pace or cause you quit early.

This may be all about running but the same goes for any exercise routine. Choose your music according to how you are going to work out – warm up, main phase and cooling down. There is no point listening to your most intense music at the beginning and burning out after a couple of songs. So listen to music that pumps you up at the beginning of your workout. Then, have your intense running songs in the middle. These will keep you motivated and make your body work harder and faster. Choose songs with a mellow tempo for the cool down. But remember to run at your own pace and not the pace of the music as it could tire you out to early, especially if you listen to dance music

Stress buster

Running is not only an excellent stress reliever it also releases ‘happy endorphins’ in the brain, which boosts your mood. So the next time you come home from work stressed and are about to sit down with an arm full of treats, get up and get out. You will feel energised and relaxed afterwards.

Hopefully you are inspired to compile your own list of running songs but here's a list of great running songs to get you started. It normally takes about 35-40 minutes from warming up all the way through to cool down.
