6 fitness myths (and why we need to ditch them)

Each year many of us will make a determined start on an exercise plan. Some of us are new to fitness, while others have just been on an extended hiatus. Regardless of your reason for returning to exercise, there are a few common myths that you should be aware of before you embark on your fitness journey.

1. You can spot reduce

The idea that you can target fat from a specific part of your body is false. When you lose weight, you cannot dictate which part of your body it comes from. Bottom line is this: working out can reduce your overall body fat, but you can't control where that fat comes from.

2. Women will bulk up if they lift weights

Women aren't built to bulk up the same way men do; females don't have the testosterone levels necessary to make this happen. Women need to do strength training for fitness, wellness, bone density, and overall health.
