The General Register Office (GRO) is part of the Identity and Passport Service. The GRO covers England and Wales with separate offices for Scotland and Northern Ireland. The GRO website gives information about how to register a birth or death in England and Wales, how to go about getting married and how to obtain certificates.
The Adopted Children Register is kept by the General Register Office, and contains a record of every person who has been adopted through a court in England or Wales since 1st January 1927. This section of the General Register Office website will give information on applying for adoption certificates; receiving information on original birth details, and making contact with adopted people and their relatives.
