Ovarian cancer affects around 7,000 women in the UK each year and it is actually more than twice as common as cancer of the cervix. Although it is occurs more frequently in women over the age of 50 years, younger women can also develop ovarian cancer. It can sometimes run in families although the vast majority of women with ovarian cancer do not have other family members with ovarian cancer.
