How to maintain a healthy back

Back pain is a problem that the majority of people experience at some point in their lives. It can be difficult to treat, and can really impact on a person's quality of life. Worryingly, it is now thought that up to a quarter of UK secondary school pupils now suffer from regular or daily back pain.

Back Care Awareness Week, which runs from 3rd to 9th October, has been launched by the charity Backcare to raise awareness of the problem and highlight some things we can do to change this.

This year, Backcare is concentrating particularly on back pain among carers, which is a very real problem for so many. It is estimated that 70% of the UK's 7m unpaid carers now suffer from back pain, often due to the heavy lifting associated with the care that they give. Maintaining a healthy back is important for so many of us.
