10 healthy ways to eat in the heat: Tips 1-5
The following list will give you some ideas for healthy meals and snacks to have on hand as the thermometer temperature rises.
Fruit (hydrating fruit in particular)
Berries, apples, pears, cherries, grapefruit, grapes, oranges, watermelon, pineapple, cantaloupe melon, plums, and mango. Turn your favourite fruits into a kid-friendly treat with fruit kebabs.
Vegetables (aim for a high water content)
Broccoli, arugula (rocket), spinach, carrots, tomatoes, radishes, cucumber, endive, bell (red, green, yellow or orange) peppers, celery, and zucchini (courgettes).
Grill or griddle up your favourite protein (chicken, beef, fish) and add it to a salad packed full of veggies, beans, and fruit.
Summer is a great time to test out some new recipes and pack your smoothies full of protein, fruit, veggies, and other healthy ingredients to make one into a meal.
Cold noodle dishes
It might be soba or some buckwheat variety, but either way with noodles you can create sauces with big flavours and serve them cold.
