(Anxiety & Kyphosis) In need of urgent advice. Help?

Yeasterday, i went to urgent care because my back pain got so bad that it was a little hard to breathe. They told me I had thoracic kyphosis i believe. I've always had poor posture since I was little. I'm 16 now. It says kyphosis rarely causes complications, but im scared that i put too much damage on my heart & lungs. Or ive damaged my spinal cord. Ive been to a cardiologist previously & he did a stress test, a couple ekgs, a holter, & an echocardiogram. He didnt find anythibg expect for skipped beats the were produced from anxiety. When i was at the urgent care, she told me that I need to stop googling to the point where I think I'm dying. When i went, my blood pressure was 144/76 i believe but it was probably because i was crying, worried, & in pain. I'm so scared that i put too much pressure on my heart & it's going to stop or something. I'm a fried this kyphosis is going to kill me. Please help .

    Hi jess

Sorry your having such a worrying time at the moment. I too have Sherman’s disease Kyphosis and it causes issues with my breathing and has caused my stomach to be pushed up into a hiatus hernia. This causes more issues as well like acid reflux which is not pleasant.

My kyphosis is in the 7”65-70’ degrees where a normal spine should be under 40 degrees.

I understand what your are going through and hope the doctors can help you with it all.

I was diagnosed at 18 years old and it is a progressive disease that is only getting worse in now 37 and it’s too late for them to do anything to help me now. I have had multiple procedures done all that have failed including debrrvation which was February this year and that Also failed.

I am under pain management and neuro surgeons at s specialist hospital and take ridiculous amounts of pain meds go just be able to walk around that is if j can even get out if bed.

I also suffer with anxiety and depression due to all this and that doesn’t help at all.

If I were you while you are still young i would ask to be referred to a specialist spine doctor to see if they can help you.

If you can please try to stay away from opioid medications. They are great at first but you will build a tolerance to them very quickly and have to continually increase the dosage. Believe me when I say I’ve been on almost every opioid Ned there is and have had to go through the hell of detox more times than I can remember which is an awful thing to have to go through so pls try and stay away from then.

They don’t treat the condition only mask the symptoms of pain.

Push to see a specialist at your age there might be something they can do for you.

I had steroid injectiins when I was diagnosed and the first ones worked brilliant but they ware off after a while and the pain returns. Might be worth considering. Check with doctors.

If I can help in any way pls let me know I’ll always try to help.

There are allot of people that are very helpful in here and have helped me get through my last detox without then I wouldn’t have made it through so if you need to talk we’re akk here to help.

    Your not alone.

Good luck for the future I hope I’ve been of some help for you.

    Regards

    Need

Also I meant to say the kyphosis itself is not life threatening to my knowledge and as you said you have been googleing what’s wrong which will scare you as there are so many stories about people which probably have similar health conditions/disability and in their case they may have had a really tough time.

I believe the internet is great for somethings but not fir others I think the best way to do it is to take every but if info with a pinch of salt and don’t let other people’s problems become your own by thinking it’s all the same as it’s not.

For example there are at least 4 different names for my disability spine condition and each one will have stories that are good and some that are not.

The only people you should listen to with any sort of nerrit is your parents and your pain doctors.

I have scared myself typing in symptoms during a bad pain spell and got myself so anxious and worked up when really there was no need to.

Just try to be careful about self diagnosis and if you find something you think fits your symptoms then talk to the professional about it.

They will Be able to confirm or shoot down any miss information about your condition and symptoms in relation to other people’s stories.

Try your hardest to resist googling everything as it will only tie you in knots with all the conflicting info.

Take it from someone who knows!!

Good luck with everything and message if you want or need to.

    Regards

    Andy
