16 weeks post tkr happy with with my rehab and know its a long haul.Knee stll gets hot and swells but managing that.
Due to return to work in 2 weeks phased but past 2 days knee hot and swollen ( iced and elevated that is not my concern as battle soft tissue swelling with RA as well as tkr but use to that). My concern is that I'm getting an almost pulling, tugging discomfort/ pain to the inferior medial side of my knee. Done a bit of research wondering if it's the ligament (MCL) and I've overstretched in ROM exercises or upped the static bike resistance too much. It improves when I first get up in the morning but then gradually becomes nagging. I take NSAID anyway and have decided today to increase icing and elevation and haul back a bit. Knee swells if walk more than a mile but gather this is normal post tkr.
Just venting really seeing my surgeon early next month anyway but am a bit concerned. Been discharged from physiotherapy as they were more than happy with progress but remember I had this for a while when they pushed down on knee to help extensio but resolved. Extension still a way to go and have been told it will take a while to stretch my ligaments due to long term flexon deformity.
Just wondering anyone else experienced this.
Apologies for the essay lol I'm a ranger 😊

I have the same type of pain st 6 weeks. It's preventing me from getting the rom I need. It started when I pushed heel slides a few weeks ago and has never resolved. My pt and the dr office says it's all perfectly normal. Wish it would go away and I'm so sorry you're still dealing with this.

Hi Duckfan,
Sorry to.hear it's effecting Your ROM and has lasted so long.
Good to know they said that its normal but at 16 weeks was a bit worried and I just like to know why?? Lol. My bend fine especially when not swollen but extension not ideal. Like you I think 2 days ago I pushed the bending exercise a bit to far on pulling back knee to chest and also upped bike resistance. Hauled back today but not going to stop as I don't want to go backwards. It's still great to have a stable knee joint.
Keep going all the best!

Hi DucKhan,
How are you doing hope you are progressing?
Hauling back for 24 hours with ice and elevation hourly resolved the infero- medial pulling sensation and pain. Went to the pool yesterday and back to routine.I definitely think this is due to overforcing
In the flexon exercise which is what you suggested. I'm at + 120 to 125 less if swollen and have decided happy with that as it will allow me to road cycle eventually. My physio said would very happy with +110.
Thanks for your advice and happy rehab.
Best wishes, Jan.

Hi. Went to pt yesterday and when she tried to bend my knee back I actually burst into tears saying I was so frustrated. Really embarrassed me because I hate to show weakness. She of course was very concerned which made me even more tearful. Wish she'd just told me to suck it up. She said you'll get there don't worry. I told her I was so afraid of not getting that rom and she said, hey you're still early in the healing and still swollen. It will get better.
So I left there and came home to wait for the Dr appt with my primary care doc. Walked in there with a cane and did great.
He wants me to do a echocardiogram because my diastolic and systolic blood pressure are a little far apart. Nothing to fret about but just another test. Is this what getting old is?
Came home again and went to the pharmacy using the cane again and stopped by to get Mexican food for dinner.
All this to say the I actually had a pretty good day. First time I've been in a store since the surgery. Walked well until I came to a curb but it will come. I was a little surprised that I did so well. It was like magic. So I guess im doing well even though i can't get past 85.

Hi there. Really sorry to hear your PT wasn't son good. I was stuck with my flexon a bit early on and it's right it became much better as the swelling lessened. Even now ROM can have a deflating effect on readings. Sods law it always gets more swollen when you have a PT / physio appthe! Keep at it as it will come. As Chico Marx states don't compare with others and there are ups and downs.
Don't fret about your blood pressure it's best to get it checked.I didn't even have mine checked at follow up appointments !
Such a difference in health systems.
It's great that your are mobilising and getting out a bit !Walking will.help your rehab and keep up the ROM exercises so important.
I just remember how bad it was mobilising before this op. It's easy to forget.
Enjoy your Mexicon and the spice brings out the endorphins😊.
Take care , Jan x

Are you in England? It's on my bucket list. My ancestors came from the Isle of Gursney.
I did notice yesterday that my it band and hip didn't hurt standing in line at the pharmacy. That's a huge improvement. I could walk into the mall before because of the pain.
I'm in Oregon right on the ocean.

I miss the coastal walks. How lovely you are by the ocean nothing like it in my books.
Guernsey I have visited once lovely little island and went to Herne (no cars there) but have not been to the bigger Island of Jersey.
You're getting there it's a haul!

I can only dream of how beautiful England is. One day I'll see it. Yes, I've missed walks on the beach because of my knee. Looking forward to doing it again.
