?new or recurrent aches when restrictions lifted

Me again sorry!

Can any of you let me know if you had any new or recurrent aches and pains when you lifted the restrictions?

I am 9wk post op today and was told last week by OS could drop restrictions, drive ,sleep on sides and stop using crutches in home, gradually stop use of one crutch outdoors.

Did do yoo much on first day admittedly but more cautious since.

Noticed that the chair feels so low now. My back and thighs ache when I get up.

My back now is sore and shoulders too???? (I do have "crap spine" according to OS as I have arthritis throughout all lumbar spine with DDD. I have had spinal injections for pain but sort of ignored this due to getting hip sorted.

Sleep is better but not onto op side fully.

Still using grabber/shoe horn for really tricky things.

I took ages to be able to lay on op side still not brilliant comfy after a year. Also got tired for about 3 months after your 9week it's a long haul to getting completely back to normal as I am sure many hippies will say.

good luck you sound as if you are not doing to bad.

Hi im 13 weeks post op and still use grabber. I can't reach my foot on operated side yet. I had a high backed chair for 12 weeks and now I've got rid of it my furniture seems really low. I've seen an improvement over the last week but still have a lot of stiffness. I've managed to get rid of my step stool to get into the bath this week. I get aches and pains which seem to come and take me by surprise. I guess we are still healing and these pains will be with us for a while yet.

    Best wishes with your recovery

Hi angela I too am 9 weeks  post op and I was at the hospital two weeks ago and she told me to use two sticks and try to correct my gait (I was just using one on the advice of physio!!) and she also thinks one leg may be longer than the other and this is causing the gait and really bad backache have to go back for an xray in 6 weeks...Yesterday I did a lot of town walking without my sticks just to see and depending on the pavements managed okish but really tired and aching....

I was told I can lie on my op side but not my other, though have tried both neither very comfortable, I got into the bath for the first time yesterday and got out ok though I think I might have gone under the 90 degree that they still say adhere to at my hospital everywhere  is different....

I can put my sock on with a struggle just scared to push I think, but I will say everyweek brings a bit improvement and sometimes a setback but on the whole I think Im getting there..

    Hi Angela,

Congratulations are in place !!! Kind of scary, right ?

I kept the 90 degree rule for a while and actually still do when picking up something from floor - still don't twist my body - discomfort were plenty after restrictions were lifted - I kept cushions on my chair and couch -

As long as I am waddling I take my cane with me -  it is very easy for me to go back to the default pre-surgery .limp .....

used sock aid and grabber for as long as I needed it - why force it? especially the socks -

Slept on non-operated side on 2nd day post-op while still in hospital (pillow between knees) - on operated side when comfortable -

don't worry too much, your body will let you know when you overdid it

    big warm hug

    Angela,

Odd pains and things keep coming and going, but generally after 6 months I am feeling much better - able to commute to/from London today without a stick (I was only using it to warn and ward off enthusiastic commuters anyway).

I had sore shoulders from using stick/cane in one hand all thetime - see my website - on my physio's advice I used 'hiking poles' (see pic), and that was much better.

Take it easy, this is a LONG recovery for most of us.

Oh Angela you sound so much like me, just had RTHR and still need to get the left one done. Also have crap spine and have had spinal injections, it did help me some but wore off after about two months. It sounds like you are using muscles that are still not built back up to full strength. Only advice I have is listen to your body, and if it is aching too much then maybe not ready yet for the new step. Yes, I have grabbers at my house (of course seems like I am always dropping things), and use them all the time. I haven't used the shoe horn since my husband helps me with my shoes and socks...It is hard to say if your pain is coming from your spine or the hips....As one can bother the other...That is why it took the doctors (sent from one to another with different answers each time) to finally figure out what was going on with me. Wishing you well and hope you have a great recovery. Hugs....Barb
