Hi All,

just sharing the healing process goes onfor  a long time, and I just felt confident and strong enuf after second hip op to do a 5K race on saturday. delighted! good for confidence too......

I'm 72yo, and while I did a time of 50 minutes which is pretty pants, and what I did 10K in in my 30s, glad to be back running/ jogging/walking/jogging/walking by the Exeter quayside ....

My physio advised no bunge jumps, but otherwise any gentle exercises can only help. i've been into my step counter on my phone a lot,to spur me on, Going to  gym, swims, and now the run....

Hip op decision was easy - and lovely being pain free if abit stiff today

Good luck all on your journeys

Mic

Hi Mic great to hear that. I am11months post R THR and now 57. Back to gym 3 times a week. Personal rehab trainer once a week and also Aqua Zumba. Took me quite a while to get over op but doc says younger people take longer. Agree with you great to be pain free although a bit stiff sometimes after exercise. I think you are amazing I don't run as got osteoarthritis knee but admire those who do. Keep on running and enjoying life xx

Well done you! I was a day behind you (I think) and only a couple of weeks ago I suddenly realised I felt totally "normal" again. In that I feel like the hardware inside is now part of me. I do need the other side doing at some point but at the moment it's ok. I never was a runner- so won't start now. 😄 But I'm back doing all my other activities. Oh and I have some serious dental work coming up. Something to look forward to - not. Keep up the good work. Lovely to hear how you are getting on

    Awesome! Well done.

i am just over 4 weeks THR. Yesterday I did 10000 steps for the first time in ages and up a hill in our village that was really painful to go up previously. Just back from the first trip to the gym- 20 mins on a static bike and 20 min on the tread mill. Plus we are out today lots more walking!

    best wishes,

I had my bilateral hip replacements a week last Tuesday. Currently finding it very painful to walk around my flat for only a short period of time and at snails pace. Seeing how well you are doing at 4 weeks is fantastic. I am finding it very difficult to be laid up like this and don't know what I would do without my daughter staying here to help me.

    hello dear old friend,

wow .... you did it -- but I always thought you would - you were so determined and disciplined and motivated -

unfortunately my road has been a wee bit different than yours but I am getting there -

I just need a doctor or physical therapist or somebody to listen to me ...

Good to see you here, mic ...

how is the squatting going?  (or was that not you?)

    big warm hug

Congrats on the progress! Sounds as though we had ours at the same time (Feb 2015?).

You're right it does take longer than we think but I have been playing golf, swimming and walking since after about 3 months.

Just about to have my right hip done on Wed (Aug 31 2016) so wish me luck this hoes as well - life changing...👍🏻😀😀

I haven't been a running competitively since my 20s (walking has been a better choice for me), so applaud this on any levels. It is great to hear your enthusiasm and pleasure in achieving this. I can forsee many other milestones achieved in the not so distant future! Bravo for your run but also for sharing it with us, so that we keep balance in the stories we hear of life post-thr. It is good to hear of both - to encourage and to keep us alert.

    Best wishes Mic.

I think I just found a blueprint for recovery after hip 2 (surgery in 3 weeks).

Thanks. And more generally - I have been enjoying your common sense posts.

Wow hi mic I remember you from last year good on you . My operation was last august. Sadly I have been suffering from bursitis since January howevery I am back kayaking and while onow holiday last week walked 42 miles in total but I still have paint and I do feel my leg seems weaker than post op ... I worry I haven't done exercises enough after opening though I am very active and work 30 hours a week .

Hi to all the old hippies out there (Renee much love )
