Hello michael63720, I feel your pain and worries. I am on day 14 today after THD and mucopexy (lifting of a significant prolapse), and I'm starting to feel almost normal only now. I hope I can answer some of your questions, or at least I'll try:

    • The local anaesthetic injected inside is normal, I had it too and it did wear off a few hours after the procedure.
    • I can't advice you on the gauze, as I did not have it. I know of people who had it applied though, and I think it will come out at your first BM. Contact your surgeon or the clinic where you had it done, I'm sure they will be able to help you. I had no leakage or discharge, but again I think it's pretty normal - did you have a classic haemorrhoidectomy or THD/mucopexy? Either way, I've read that it does happen often.
    • I also was given no antiobiotics, but my surgeon told me they'd give me a shot of that during surgery so perhaps that's what they did to you too.

The next few days will be tough mate there is no way of sugar coating it, but you will get better by the day after that. Make sure you eat clean, possibly stick to a semi-liquid diet (soups, broths etc.), plenty of water and some natural fiber such as veggies, pears, dried fruit. I found dried prunes and prune juice very helpful. In essence, you don't want to pass hard stool; your first BM will hurt no matter what, but you can make it a little better by having soft poop. Also, I had to strain a lot for the first few days even though my stools were soft - I think it's a combination of swelling and bruised muscles. On the other hand, you don't want liquid stools as they keep things very messy, make you dehydrated and generally unwell, so you've got to get the balance right. I stopped taking co-codamol halfway day three, as it makes you constipated - I took the occasional ibuprofen when the pain got bad. I had my first BM on day four, and I had to help it with two micro enemas (micralax 5ml is the product). Do make sure that you take the fiber supplements and laxatives that they gave you post op, as they were really good for me.

Good luck and keep fighting, you've got this!

I too found warm baths very beneficial, great natural pain relief and relaxing plus they might help with constipation. I ise Epsom salts in the bath, they relax your muscles and let your body absorb some magnesium. Do not stress about bowel movements, unless it takes longer than a week it's hardly a problem - especially considering the changes in your diet. Listen to your body, and remember that you will be fine and most importantly hopefully haemorrhoids free!

I'm attempting my first light jog today, fingers crossed!
