20 Days Post Op Anterior Left THR - Happy with progress

I stopped Hydrocodone night before last and no real issues. Great to not have that constant sleepy feeling. Since I was taking them about every 6-7 hours, decided I could manage. Yesterday was amazing. One difference, not a problem really, was that I didn't fall asleep as quickly when it was bedtime. Since that was my pre-surgery usual, didn't bother me at all. I had a little headache but not sure if that was related since it is gone now. I'm planning to ask my surgeon at Wednesday's appointment  what he would recommends I take if necessary. Thinking it will be acetaminophen since I can't take aspirin other than the dosage (twice a day) I'm on for the next 3 weeks.

I'm also using my cane more often. We keep the walker in the car just in case I need to walk a lot and get tired. I used the riding cart while grocery shopping yesterday.

Continue to have the swelling in my thigh but no pain with it. I use the ice and lie on bed in afternoon, elevating with the ice.

Of course, I'm being VERY CAREFUL whenever I walk and do anything. I know it will take TIME to heal and that is ok. Not having the hip pain is amazing.

I walk slowly with the cane, careful with all surfaces. Have to watch out for my pups' toys, too.

You are almost on an identical start to recovery as I was.  I had a Anterior left THR 15 weeks ago on Wednesday.  The first few weeks were all about keeping up on my oxycodien.  I really relied on them for my pain.  I also took Valium at night to sleep.

I’ve been back to work for a couple months.  Very slow at first, but doing fine now. I just started going to the gym yesterday.  That felt great to bike 3 miles and walk a mile.  That hot tub and steam room was glorious.  I’m going back for more today.  It’s a process, but seeing yourself improve really feels good.  Just go at your own pace.  Good luck!

Good to hear similarities. I miss not being able walk more, but know it is a process and will happen.

Since I slept in recliner for more than a week, I didn't have the difficulty getting on and off the bed. Now sleep in bed and later in recliner.

My first hip replacement was ain september 2017, and I was on same medicine. Hated it and quit. My last hip replacement was Jan. 15, and I was put on Vistaril, , HUGE differ nice! Doesn't mess with the tummy, relaxes the muscle pain. Highly recommend!

    Diane-

Congratulations.  It sounds like your recovery is going well.  20 days and walking/off meds seems like it's progressing nicely.  Glad to hear your out of pain.

I had a few aches today. My husband suggested a pain pill. No way! I can manage.
