4 weeks and a step back..

Well, today was my 1 month mark post-op. I have met a few personal goals like being able to throw pants on and off in relative comfort, but fell short on quite a few as well.
My biggest set-back/woe has been some form of -itis in my groin/soas/tendon area that I have had since week 2, thanks in part to an over-eager therapist. It's an awful spot to have hurt, as you use it doing pretty much everything where you raise your knee.
My new therapist has taken me completely off of any exercises involving that area, which will set me back even farther since that's at least half of the exercises I was supposed to be doing.
The body heals how it heals, but it's still a bit disappointing not being able to do some very basic exercises yet.
On the up side, she has asked me to stop using the cane around the house so I can focus on my gait and training my brain to stop guarding the hip now. We both had a good laugh at me trying to walk normal, which wasn't painful, but my brain wasn't having any of it apparently.
I hope everyone is recovering nicely, and remember to try not to over-do things for the holidays.

Sorry to hear about your setback and its very kind of you to describe your previous therapist as "over-eager" whilst you are now suffering for that. Im sure you must be disapointed but you will soon catch up once your sore bits are healed.
I was feeling really low for the first five weeks and my doctor thought I might be anaemic (I wasnt) - I had no energy (more than the usual tiredness we feel as we get over the operation) , I had no appetite and felt sick a lot of the time. In the end they put it down to side effects from the blood thinners as once I finished them at 5 weeks I started to feel much better.
Because I had no energy during those first 5 weeks I couldnt do much exercising and was worried this would really affect my recovery.
But here I am 4 weeks later I am driving again, exercising every day, I am going to hip school - using all the gym equipment which I havent been able to do in a very long time (!) and generally feel good, still tired from time to time but amazed at how much I can now do.
So it may take you a little longer but you will get there, so do what you can, and you will soon be walking well. 😀
Take care

Oh dear, that happens and might happen agaon in the future - one has to be en garde almost all the time and we know that that isn't happening - Your body will tell you when you are going to fast - as disappoimnted as you might feel, it is all for the better -
This Physical therapy and exercises thing can be so confusing - It is easy to want to to do things too soon and with that damage the newly knitted and fragile tissue - not sure about walking without a cane at 4 weeks though - I was told to use walking aid for 6 weeks , also inside - no furniture surfing either because my gait was sooooo off - I needed the cane to keep myself balanced -
take it easy and allow the damaged muscle to heal before you exercise it okay?
big warm hug

I hope it is better now. I am avoiding too much physio - walking is the best exercise. I hope you are okay x

Lots of traveling to do this next week with the holidays, so I'm sure it will be a rough week or two yet.

I am 8 months out. Still use a cane to walk around outside for any length of time. Still having issues walking up and down steps.
But my surgeon told me that if any exercises cause groin pain to stop doing them. My therapist wasn't too thrilled about that one but it made a difference.
Good luck!

It's a therapists job to push you over those limits and rebuilb some muscle/range of motion/confidence, but our job to know when to say nope, not going to happen.
I am starting hydro-therapy after the new year, so am excited to see how that helps. My surgeon believes the low gravity will help a lot with the problem area.
