5 days post RTHR

Hi all, sorry I haven't been on in a few days. I've been busy doing my exercises, relearning to walk etc. I was discharged from hospital yesterday evening after having my dressing changed & going up & down 2 flights of stairs (as I live in a 2 storey house). I get now why everyone calls them physio terrorists, but if they didn't do their job Id still be in hospital. I find some of the physio exercises on the bed quite painful but the physio gave me a slider sheet t make them a little easier. I cannot believe how quickly I have gotten over the op & am walking quite well with 2 crutches. I even had a little wander around my garden this morning in the beautiful autumn sunshine navigating the 3 steps outdoors. As far as pain goes it's no worse than I would have expected after such a big op. I have approx 12" scar 28 staples (nurse counted them). Starting to get a nice black bruise on my behind & swelling to my thigh & knee. Ankles are fine so far probably due to my sexy stockings😃. In hospital I was brought a pillowcase of bagged ice chippings 3 times a day. At home I'm using frozen peas in a pillow case. Doing the same job only they don't stay frozen as long. I'm off all painkillers,I was taking pre,op & am only on minimal amount of pain relief along with aspirin for a month to,prevent clotting. Anti inflammatory twice a day & paracetemol 4 times a day. I was given a stronger fast acting pain med to take if pain goes abot 5/6 but haven't needed it yet thank God. I have always had a very high pain threshold so maybe that helps. We had to travel an hour & half from hospital & then pick up a prescription in pharmacy on the way home & I was delighted to be able to be a passenger without that old bone on bone pain. (The head of my femur was completely dissintigrated). Overall I'm so far extremely pleased with the outcome. I just hope it keeps improving day by day. To any pre op patients on here who are scared, try not to worry. I had a major panic attack the day before & morning of my surgery & the nursing staff, Dr & anaesthetist couldn't have been more supportive before during & after the op. I don't even remember being wheeled into Theathre & woke up to my surgeons big blue eyes & Hollywood smile & a bevy of beautiful nurses all looking out for me. Id just say go for it. You will never look back. I'm actually looking forward to having my LTHR done asap. I'll know more after my post,op apt 10 November. Enjoy the beautiful sunshine fellow hippies 😘

Thank you for your words about pre op panic.

I am on stage on Monday for my performance..

Well it is a theatre .. But I'd

rather be in the audience. Good luck for

    the coming days.

Best of luck Cathie. You will perform brilliantly on the day. There could've been nobody more terrified than I was the day before op when I was admitted. I shook all over & was frozen (literally) with fear. I often suffer with anxiety attacks though. The staff handled me fantastically & reassured me. The morning of the op I was no better. But pre med early & I calmed down. Dr arranged that I was done early. Back in my room before 1pm. U won't look back. That bone on bone pain is a distant memory now. X

      Hi cathie,

My LTHR debuts at 8am Monday, have to be there at 6:30 so not much hanging about.  It is really reassuring to read Gossip's  post done so soon after surgery.  Gettng anxious, enough to email my surgeon today. He reassured me I would be adequately sedated to be blissfully unaware.

Trying to keep busy getting things ready and planning a shower room, you know, to keep my mind off it.  Just picked up a grabber so am practising with that. Not yet nanaged to plug in my tablet charger with it :D

Best of luck op buddy and thankyou Gossip for the positive report.

Did you mean you actually saw your old hip

bone? What an experience! Did you ask to see it?

      tell me more, please.

Sorry about your pain, hope it's just the normal.

i can't take pain killers so I expect it, but I coped

ok last time, with something to help me sleep at

night. Pain is worse if you are tired. A good tip is

2 hours on the bed in the afternoon in the early days.

was your hip osteoarthritis? Was your hip craggy like stone?

that is how I imagine it, mine is bone on bone.

Hi I,m 11 days post right hip I enjoyed reading your post it was very positive glad all seems to be going in the right direction. I was feeling a bit sorry for myself this morning mainly due to lack of sleep suddenly "Mr blue sky " came on the radio (E.L.O) & it instantly snapped me out of my low mood &cheered me up as this its the music me & my twin grandchildren often dance around too, they will be over later to visit ,we won,t be dancing to it quite yet but it's nice to know that the power of music can have a positive effect on us all happy listening everyone .
