5 weeks post op A andP repair

I thought that after 5 weeks I would be getting back to normal. But I try to do anything I suffer for it. I go for a walk, feel fine so go a little further then have awful back ache. The only relief is lying on the bed. Has anyone else suffered with the back at this point?

Hi. I suffered terrible back pain before my op but fortunately since I have had very few days where it's bothered me. Not sure if this is because I've not done much and off work or if the op has helped. I wish I could be of any help to why your suffering. But 5 weeks is still early days. In at 9.5wks and still having pain but have been reassured from people and matron on here that it's all still to be expected. I can walk around fine but get very tired and gets crampy pain if I do too much. Take care. X

Although I'm having back ache now it's not as bad as it was before the op. It's just I didn't get any pain or aches after the op, not until I tried to do a little more. I need to take a step back and not push too hard.

I'm so glad to have found this site and be able to hear from others in the same position it's reassuring.

    Hi Clare,

If Matron were here, I'm sure she would tell you that awful back ache is your body telling you that you have overdone things.

We are given such unrealistic recovery times!

Recovery from these repairs take so long , and we have to rest plenty in early weeks and build up walks very slowly, just a little at a time.

They tell us to listen to our body . Takes months for deeper tissues to heal!

    Take care,

    Phyl x☺

Thank you, I think your right recovery in 6 to 8 weeks isn't realistic. I'm trying too hard and need to slow it down a bit. It's not easy when used to being independent!

You're right we women lead such busy lives and always looking after everyone else, and so difficult to rest up and allow everyone else to do it all.

It's also really difficult to get our fitness level back after such a long recovery!

still glad I had the op. Life before was getting difficult and painful. I felt really old at 53.

Prolapse of any kind really robs us of quality of life and although the repairs can take a long time in recovery it us worth it in the end but we have to be very careful not to undo the good work of the surgeon and take things slowly and not hurry the recovery.

I am 15/16 weeks post up and back at work (2 X 5 hour shifts) , usually on my feet for a for just over half the shift, surviving but can be uncomfortable and can take a couple of days to recover. So take as long as you can to recover properly.

      Lots of rest,

      Phyl x☺

I am nearly four weeks anterior repair and am only just recovering from pain in my sit bones couldn't understand this apparently can be due to the position they had you in to perform the op.  Unfortunately it is incontinence that I am suffering from its a nightmare every time I go out and walk any distance going to see continence nurse tomorrow never had this, problem before the op.  Hope your backache eases never realised how just how this op would affect me hopefully time will help,us heal

I had the incontinence before the op. Things in the department ate already so much better. I hope you have the same experience.

I didn't have any bladder symptoms before my AR other than a 'something coming down' feeling. No incontinence at all. After my op I found I was leaking every now and again and I was so upset. I had various tests but no problem was found and it just stopped by itself. I was just told it was "part of the healing process" - what that means I don't know but it did go away. I wish I'd known about this forum then as I used to worry about every little thing. Mention it to the doctor or nurse but you may well find it just stops one day. Wishing you well.

I think that all the muscles down below are effected by the anesthetic and take a little while to recover! My sister reckons that the lungs take up to 6 months, not sure if that's right or just here say?

Wish Matron was back she keeps us all right!

I was still having a tough time at 5 weeks.  I was just starting to have enough energy to try taking a walk but my walks were very short.   I think at 4.5 weeks I started walking and at first I would walk about 150 feet away from my house and then go inside and lay down.  I have been slowly trying to increase it as I feel better, being very careful not to push it.  I'm almost 7 weeks now and I am walking much farther.  I still can't go a long way, or quickly, but now my walks are about 6-8 times as long and I try to do 3 walks a day.  I'm on my feet more, but I still spend an awful lot of time laying down.  I almost never sit as that hurts my back.

My back hurts and the op definitely aggravated it,  but I had back pain beforehand so I'm not a good comparison.

I'm going to try 2 short walks with a long rest in between instead of pushing for a longer walk. Listening to my body is really difficult when my head is screaming "do some

thing"! I'm hoping things will be easier when I can drive again. At least I can go and sit with friends and not stress at home alone!

    Hi Clare,

I have a damaged spine and disc/nerve problems anyway, and  since my op it's been a lot worse.

I'm pretty sure it's due to my legs being in high stirrups during surgery, ans wish it would ease off.

As to the tiredness, I'm tired if I do much, and I'm nearly ten weeks post op.

    It's a slow recovery.

Hi clare I'm 9 weeks post opp now from a rectocele and I still get days when my body doesn't seem to want to work and to have suffered with lower back pain it's because iv over done it the day before. When I went for my consultation before the op my surgeon told me it was a 6 week healing proccess but I went to my doctor last week cause I was still feeling a little tender around the perennial area and she said that it would take around 6 month for everything to heal properly and to take one step at a time.xxx

Yes, thank you Topsi, Sunday shift much better this week , not so long on my feet and a little quieter so not so much packing to do at checkout

Think having cold and coughing too much along with 4 hours on feet at work last week put me back a bit. But cold drying up not coughing now so getting back on track.
