Since  I'm in the USA I'm on Obama Care Coventry Health and I don't really care to go and get lots of tests run when  it is what it is and the same thing happened to my mom.......I just stocked up on Walgreens brand poise pads........on my way to get an iron supplement because of the loss of blood, also I like to do deal with the situation at hand just the way I receive it accordingly because I am a caregiver I'm home health aide.......I am taking a lot of vitamin c to fight this upper respiratory thing I've got going on and I had been under some stress and I've been feeling a little sluggish......went to smoking again occasionally stressed, needing some teeth extracted, feeling sluggish....... so so much going on thinking I picked up this respiratory thing in some public place

    Hi Darleen,

The same happened to me for about a year - I called it gushing.  Really distressing so I can understand how you feel.  My doctor just told me it was my body's farewell to periods.  It still took a year though.

Good luck and rest assured, it does all end sometime!

Darleen, we are in similar situations. I am 57 and have been bleeding, spotting, and clotting off and on for ten months-mostly on! I am spending $80 a month on various pads for blood and urine. I am on Obamacare, too, in Ohio, since I had to leave teaching 3 years ago due to health reasons, but not enough to get disability.

I am running a home daycare with my daughter. It's really difficult to take off to go to the doctor, and I am prone to panic attacks, so getting a lot of procedures isn't something I can do now.  I have a long list of health problems, including diabetes, asthma with chronic cough, and stress and urge incontinence, obesity.

I have been digging deeper into researching what is more likely wrong with me that isn't cancer, delving into medical research instead of just posts and blogs, but this place was/is a great help to me with all the wonderful people sharing their experiences and support. I have concluded that I am estrogen dominant and severely low progesterone.

Everyone has to figure out what works for them. I tried bioidentical micronized progesterone cream for 3 months and saw improvement in my bleeding and clotting, but I stopped for two months to test it. Things got oh so much worse! So I'm back on the progesterone cream and seeing improvement.

I had terrible insomnia until I tried evening primrose oil. Worked like a charm! After a few months I stopped taking it to test it, and the insomnia came back. I started taking the primrose again, and my sleep has been wonderful and my brain fog much less.I also take the usual vitamins and mineral supplements.

However, I tried Vitex (chasteberry) and started to get pains in my kidneys after a few days so I stopped and it went away.

I'm also just getting over that respiratory illness. A few years ago I had to have some molars extracted. I think it was because I was severely vitamin D deficient. I now take large doses of D3 to maintain an optimal level.

Have you read the various books on hormones and perimenopause? There's also a blog from a professional medical writer who talked about her terrible bleeding and problems going through peri.

I'm hoping all this bleeding is at the end of peri, like I've read. I started skipping periods more than ten years ago! I thought my periods were just going to go away quietly and I'd slip into real menopause without a glich! Wrong! There's a parable in the bible about a woman who was bleeding for 12 years and suffered much at the hands of doctors-I bet! Just the thought of all those procedures in my who-who give me a panic attack!

    Darleen,

I'm in the US as well and I also bleed very heavy. It's horrible, I can't sleep because I'm afraid of bleeding all over and when I get up it's like Niagra Falls, gets all over me. My last period, I bled through my pants at work, fortunately my top was long enough to cover the stain until I got home. I won't go anywhere but work when I have my period because of the gushing. I've been this way for years though. I'm trying to deal with as just a fact of life for a woman. Taking recommended supplements but really holds me back. I'm 52 and cannot wait until I'm done. I wish they had night time diapers for heavy bleeders so the bed doesn't get messed up lol

Hi I have just read all the posts in this discussion thread and I am concerned.

I am in the UK so do not know about Obama care etc so can not comment on this(tho I have heard from fb friends about it).

Now I do not wish to butt in or to scare you. .. but may I ask if any of you had a break before your "gushing" flows started?

I am asking for a reason

      Dee,

I'm in the US but not on Obamacare, I have my own private insurance.  I do get the break you are talking about. My periods are heavy for 3 days straight before it calms down but during that time, suddenly it will seem like my period is going away and bleed very light and then suddenly I will pass a big clot and feel like a waterfall. I have bleed right through my clothes at times. I know that sounds disgusting...ugh but many women go through it.  It's been that way for several years for me. I'm 52 and praying this is the year I stop menstruating. What is it in particular that you are worried about?

Have you been refered to your gynea team? I was eventually refered to mine via GP and they did a hysterscopy this will show if you have polyps, cysts or something else which may cause this gushing. Also check your iron levels as mine went way down. I ended up having to have a total hysterectomy in November as I had endrometrial cancer.....Thankfully this cleared the Cancer. I do not wish to scare people I am just stating my experience.
