Hi everyone. I had left hip total hip replacement 27th April 2015. I am now 7 week post. My walking is not to bad. Apart from when I walk a long distance. That's when I feel pain on the operated leg. Or if I sit down for to long. I still have a little limp. When I first stand on it in the mornings. Or after sitting to long. During the nights it not to bad. Apart from. I can not rest on the operated side for to long.

    Hi Gilly

You are 8 weeks today and I am 8 weeks tomorrow.

You don't say how old you are, I am 46.  Like you, I still don't sleep very well as I can only lay on my operated side for a short period and laying on the non  operated side feels strange and not very comfortable.

I can walk without a limp but I really have to concentrate but if I walk too far it becomes painful and a small limp is present.

Mornings and after sitting for too long I also find I become stiff.

I have just found out about a great app called pocket physio which has given me some different exercises which I hope will help.

I work full time but have not returned to work yet, I still don't feel ready, how about you?

Do you drive?  I do but find it quite uncomfortable but I'm getting there.

Good luck with the rest of your recovery, I need the other one doing so will be going through it all again soon!

    Paula 😃

hi gilly .... sounds normal to me too ...  I am with Ian here ... right hip operated on 14 weeks ago and seems to be doing fine .... actually doing better than left that needs THR now too --- wobbling like a toddler and painful .... sad  no problems regarding laying on either side - a little confusing which leg is considered good now when I go up / down the stairs ... take it easy - as they say: one step at the time ... you ae doing good - warm hug

I had mine 24th April. Mine is very similar. I can walk ok - if I get going I do it without  alimp but after sitting a bit I am stiff and tend to limp a bit aroung the house. My wound area is still tender though the scar is healed and the hp does ache after exercise. I'm still sleeping most of the time on my back. I can't sleep on the operated side it is too sore and on the other side which was replaced 15 years ago my leg even aches a bit then though I have managed a couple of hours.I think it is because normally you move about in bed but I think I keep in 1 position more now so you get stiff and sore more.

Anyway I think I am doing ok (apart from my very sore toes caused by the  weight of the quilt!) and it sounds like you are too.

You get pains in all sorts of places - I've had pain in my lower back pelvis area, buttocks, thighs front side and back  and knees.  I still get pains in back and thighs but not all the time. At 2 weeks I was taking painkillers throughout the day. Some lucky people seem to manage without but I didn't see the point in suffering so recommend you take the piankillers you have been given. You heal better if you are not in pain. good luck with your recovery. I'm now 8 weeks and still get aches but manage generally with pain killers just at night.

Oh ell no! The butt pain is the worst, it is actually the prinicipal reason I took codeine. That butt pain hung around (although it lessons) for a good month to 6 weeks. Here, go get yourself some Volterene Pain cream, 2% try to get the 2% vs the 1%. It has a slighly different name in the UK, but that Volterene cream works EXCELLENT on the butt pain. It takes about 30 minutes for it to work, I rubbed it liberally all over wherever I hurt and it took just enough of the butt pain edge off to enable me to sleep. I still use it now and then for arthritis aches & pains. It doesn't last real long, maybe 2 hours but it takes enough of the pain away to allow you to sleep.

I think you can buy it over the internet if you can't get out and don't have anybody who can pick it up for you. It's really odd, even though the one leg was operated on for me the "good leg" acted up from time to time. Probably since I was walking better and using parts of the good leg I hadn't used in a while. Best of luck to you, the butt pain.... sigh, yeah I know exactly what you mean.
