7 weeks post op update

Happy Monday everyone!

ok, it's now 7 weeks after my op and I'm just up dating. I had stitches for my anterior and posterior repair, contracted an infection in week 2 and had small relapses because I did too much too soon. I had a lot of antibiotics which caused a complete wash out of my bowel flora so I had to work hard on that to reestablish a place for my immune system to build on. I stopped eating sugars, pretty much all sugars to be precise. This stopped the chance of candida appearing and it worked very well. This change in diet allowed me to re educate my eating habits and listen to my body.

I was spending hours on end on the couch making everything out of crochet that I could think of and it worked, I rested, fully. But resting means that a diet with carbs in would be energy unspent and that would just sit in the body. I was swollen and bored, so I looked at milk. I stopped taking milk over a week ago and I feel much better.

Instead I drink peppermint tea and that in turn has helped my bladder somehow. The bloating has gone. The sugars have gone right down in my system so now I don't get restless legs or achey joints. This has helped the sitting for long periods of time situation no end. Also a high protein, low carbon diet helped.

Having no sugars has also helped the emotional roller coaster rides that I was getting.

This weekend I went out and walked quite a bit and I can't believe how much better I feel to last week, where I was still getting sore at bending and stretching. There's a faint tinge here and there but on the whole I feel really good. I'm also aware that I'm still in the mending phase so I'm going to keep my feet up every day (literally!) carry on with the kegel exercises and be patient til it's all mended. I've also got a grabber which stopped the need to bend unnecessarily, a bonus for just over £5!

So, for anyone considering this op, make sure you can have 90% of your day resting with your feet up. Get your friends to help out as much as possible and be happy to receive as much support as they have.

This was the best advice I read on here and I can absolutely pass that on to others.

I don't have my check up til April end so I'll know more then, but I'm supposed to have the bladder repair later in the year.

Get over having the house as clean and tidy as before, your clothes ironed (I still live in pj's and stretchy pants) and i only dress up to leave the house.

My friends check in on me often and I don't lie when I'm feeling rough, so they're very happy to help out.

I've learned to receive and chill the heck out so enable the depth of healing in this valuable op to be the very best I can give it. No half measures. No cheating. I've dealt with boredom by finding things to watch, do, read or listen to. And it's been very healthy indeed.

I'm looking into driving again next week, if my insurers give consent too. But I'm not carrying anything heavier than my bag.

How's everyone else?

I know darling, but that's just a little ole thought going on there, not a real thing. Thoughts can be like bubbles and if you let them go they just burst in the air.

When you were busy, what did you dream of doing if you had the time to just stop? What films had you missed? Books? Stuff to make? People to catch up with? Facebook pages to start? I'm just throwing stuff out there but hey....

get your friends over and eat together xxx

Hello Jenni, I must say that while I appreciate your thoughts, as you are not a recovering patient, I do not think it appropriate that you are here promoting your business.  This site was set up for those of us who actually had gynaecological surgery and for you to continually advertise might not be the best choice.  My thoughts only.

To be fair to barb jenni since ive been here all the professionals, and there have been quite a few, have given their advice freely. They don't give their credentials nor tout their books.

Maybe if you just gave advice from one sister to another then personally I'd have no objections.

I'm a professional coach but good grief I wouldn't dream of drumming up business on here. These women are vulnerable, and I'm one of them.

    Hi Patsy

Well done you in your recovery and keeping yourself well rested.

I have to admit I am struggling with resting. I am in week 5 of post op. I have put washing on today and cleaned up a dog mess :-( . blood loss is almost nil now so think im well on the way to recovery but probably should do a bit less. I have been sewing over the weekend and have started felting which is keeping me sat in my chair lol gosh it is hard being still!

    Keep up the good rest

Keep up those crafty projects girlfriend! Maybe a scoop of sand or cat litter thrown over the poo rather than bending to pick it up? Xxx doing well WM xx

Awesome, Patsy! So good to hear!  Thank you for sharing your update.  Like you, I am into my 7th week of healing and also am feeling quite well.  I am very careful about not lifting or stretching or bending because I will not do this surgery again so I'll do whatever it takes.  I am considering driving today because the pain is gone except for when I move quickly and my energies have rebounded...but then recede if I do too much.  It is obvious the healing is not complete and this just might be the most dangerous time because while I a feeling better, I just may do too much and pay for it. I'm have an appt with my surgeon in Friday of this week and am wondering how much it might hurt....what is everyone's experience? Nagging, I will say how valuable this group has been for me and I thank you all for sharing such personal information.

I'm not sure I'll feel pain there now re a check up, but you know your body chick xx and thanks for all the support , truly x
