Hi Everyone,
I have been on Flu for 9 days now this is the first time I have taken the drug. i realised that I have been having bouts of depression for as long as i can remember (I am 28) but i have never admitted that i had a problem, I was just getting so wasted all the time just to take the sadness away.
Now that I have finally admitted that I need some help it feels like a huge weight has been lifted.
The side effects from the flu I am experiencing so far are insomnia on a huge scale, I am probably only sleeping around 3-4 hours a night, does anyone take perscribed sleeping tablets with the flu?
I am also experiencing a sore throat and nausia, i am also finding that I don't feel hungry very often but if I don't eat regularly I become really shakey so trying to eat a little and often.
How long does it take for the initial side effects to pass?

welcome to the site. I have been on flu for about 5 weeks and, like you, I didn't realise how bad I was until I felt better! If anyone had suggested before that I had depression I would have denied it passionately but now I feel better I can admit I have probably been suffering for about 2 years!
As far as the side effects go, I was lucky and didn't get most of them (except the nausea). That went off very quickly.
I guess it will take a couple of weeks for your body to get into a routine so sick with it. It is a long road we are on but you have taken the 1st steps in the right direction.
The people on this site are very supportive so if you have a bad day or similar just post something and we will do what we can to help.
Best of luck,
Lelly xx

Welcome to this site Dena you will find we are all on here for each other and any probs you have or just want to talk you will feel better for it as I dont know what I would have done without it
I am coming up to week 7 and I,m feeling much more in control. At the begining I had the same side effects as you but dont worrry they do go eventually. The only side effect I,m having is the insomnia. Sleep seems a distant memory  but I find that I have a nap in the afternoons, that helps.
I,m still waiting for councilling are you going to have any?
I also see my Doc every week and she is good at listening but I dont get enough time to offload with her.
I hope you are all ok xx
lotsa love NikkiM x

I'm on week 7, like you I mangaged 3-4 hours a night, but couldnt sleep at all during the day. I tried various herbal remedies but they didnt help at all. Eventually my doc saw me in such a state, that he put me on zopiclone. There is a page on this site.
To begin with it worked, was upto 6 hours a night! That lasted about a week, then it wore off so i took 2, which again wore off. Am now back down to 1 and get about 4-5 hours. They do make me drowsy in the morning, and I will not drive for about 2 hours after I have woken.
After 7 weeks I do feel a little better, trouble is since I have been on it I have had more stressful events than before I was on it! Things calmer now though. What I have learnt is that although you do feel awful you have to be patient, which is where the guys on here have all helped. Knowing your not alone in your suffering is I found very reassuring!
Stick with it, post as much as you like, everyone on here understands!
Take care

Welcome to the site! I've been on flu just over a year. The initial side effects for me lasted about 5 or 6 weeks. I had a sore throat quite alot, kept thinking i was getting a bug, also the sickness. I didn't have any appetite at all but had to make myself eat something to keep up my blood sugar levels, you'll probably find because you are not eating that yours are dropping, that'll make you feel worse for sure. Because i couldn't eat i ended up nibbling chocolate on and off all day to keep me going, i was getting so weak. This wasn't the best idea though.
Hope you are feeling okay today.
